Overview | Chinese Innovative Technologies Debut at the Australian Smart Energy Exhibition

2026-05-09

At the 2026 Australian Smart Energy Exhibition held at the Sydney International Convention Center, Chinese companies showcased their photovoltaic modules, energy storage batteries, and smart energy management systems as highlights. Inside the exhibition hall, Australian business figures occasionally stop in front of Chinese company booths to inquire about comprehensive solutions ranging from household electricity to industrial and commercial energy storage, from photovoltaic power generation to electric vehicle charging. The two-day 2026 Australian Smart Energy Exhibition opened in Sydney on the 6th, attracting over 12000 representatives, investors, government officials, and researchers from renewable energy companies around the world. More than 130 participating companies showcased the latest achievements in solar energy, energy storage, electrification, and smart energy solutions. At this year's exhibition, "energy storage" became a high-frequency term. In Australia, as the photovoltaic industry continues to develop, the electric vehicle market expands, and the Middle East conflict drives up fuel prices, more and more local businesses and households are paying attention to how to "generate, store, and use photovoltaic power well". The energy storage equipment and systematic solutions brought by Chinese enterprises are in line with this market change. Yang Fan, Deputy General Manager of Siyuan Electric, told Xinhua News Agency that fluctuations in fuel prices have stimulated the growth of electric vehicle sales in Australia, which in turn has driven up demand for household charging stations, household photovoltaics, and energy storage. As the cost of energy storage systems decreases and technology advances, more and more Australian businesses and households are starting to reduce costs through photovoltaics and energy storage. Wang Tongzhou, General Manager of JinkoSolar Oceania, said that local residents and enterprise users have clearly felt the instability of traditional energy prices, and therefore rely more on new energy. JinkoSolar hopes to create an "integrated light storage" solution through its self-developed system in Australia to meet the energy needs of different scenarios. Chinese companies are competitive in terms of integrated costs and supply chains, and have also established localized teams in overseas markets such as Australia to better meet local needs. At the exhibition booth of Shenzhen Shouhang New Energy Co., Ltd., inverters, batteries, and energy storage products for households and distributed scenarios are highly popular. Chen Yunxue, the technical service manager of the company, told reporters that Shouhang New Energy entered the Australian market in 2015 and has been providing various solar products to the local market for a long time. With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles in the local area, household energy storage is becoming a choice for more and more families. Ned Wiggins Dawks, Dean of the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Australia, stated that Australia and China have a strong foundation of cooperation in the photovoltaic field, and the current fluctuations in the energy market have brought new opportunities for both sides to deepen cooperation in areas such as electric vehicles, photovoltaics, and battery energy storage. Ekins Dawks has visited Chinese photovoltaic companies multiple times. He believes that China's innovation in photovoltaic silicon material production, manufacturing automation, and supply chain integration is impressive. The full competition within China's huge market, stable industrial policies, and the aggregation of industrial capabilities have jointly promoted the large-scale application of clean energy technologies such as photovoltaics. John Grimes, CEO of the Australian Smart Energy Council, believes that Australia and China have shown a high degree of complementarity in the cooperation of the smart energy industry, and looks forward to promoting the improvement of local manufacturing capabilities and accelerating the landing of clean energy projects through international cooperation.
