Usability is the goal of AI

Usability is the starting point, usability is the goal. Rooted in demand, serving the public, and empowering entities, China's artificial intelligence can take a distinctive path in global competition, inject more vitality into high-quality development, and enable more people to touch the temperature and texture of the digital age. From the recently concluded 9th Digital China Construction Summit, it can be seen that China's artificial intelligence technology has entered the primary stage of being able to chat and compete in parameters, and has entered a valuable leap period of being able to work. Easy to use, it is not only an intuitive ruler of user experience, but also a key lever for China's artificial intelligence to move from technological catch-up to innovation leadership, and from scale expansion to quality improvement. The data released at the summit shows that China's AI has entered the stage of large-scale commercial use. China is the world's largest holder of artificial intelligence patents, accounting for 60%. The upgrade of AI applications to intelligent agents has driven a rapid increase in token consumption and explosive growth in demand. The empowering effects of digital technology represented by artificial intelligence on economic development, government services, cultural undertakings, social inclusiveness, and ecological civilization construction are constantly emerging. By 2025, the scale of the core industry of artificial intelligence will exceed 1.2 trillion yuan, and the added value of the core industry of the digital economy will account for more than 10.5% of the gross domestic product. But being usable does not mean being useful. Early digital systems had problems such as frequent lagging, cumbersome interfaces, and data barriers, resulting in efficiency improvements that did not meet expectations; Some large models have fallen into the misconception of focusing on parameters and neglecting practical results. Although they can achieve basic Q&A, the answers are prone to errors and difficult to implement, and they are not suitable for the actual needs of professional scenarios such as manufacturing and healthcare, and cannot be truly transformed into productivity; The stacking of functions on smart devices is severe, but the experience is often poor, making it difficult for special groups such as the elderly and disabled to share the digital dividends. Many scenarios still remain in the awkward situation of "having tools but no efficiency", "having data but no value", "having systems but no warmth". Easy to use, first and foremost in stability, reliability, precision, and trustworthiness. AI is not a parameter competition for showing off skills, but a production tool that is "error free and reliable". For example, in factories, AI quality inspection can go from "being able to recognize" to "zero missed inspections and instant response" in order to ensure the stable operation of the production line; In government affairs, the system for handling affairs has shifted from "able to submit" to "one-time processing, no need to run, and no need to submit materials repeatedly". Data automatically flows across departments, allowing the public to handle more affairs with less running errands; In daily life, intelligent assistants need to go from being able to answer questions to being able to understand, handle tasks, and be reliable in order to truly become little helpers. Only by shedding impatience and returning to practicality can technology truly be transformed into productivity. Easy to use, emphasizing deep integration and empowering the industry. The key to being effective is to enable technology to solve real problems, generate real value, and bring real convenience. Being application-oriented is the key to transforming technology into productivity. By solving practical problems and forcing technological iteration, R&D investment can be transformed into practical commercial value, avoiding the practice of "technology for the sake of technology". This is also an important path to promote industrial upgrading, enabling artificial intelligence to accurately connect with the needs of various industries and stimulate new forms and models of business. The vast and diverse market in our country provides rich application scenarios, which is a unique advantage for the development of artificial intelligence in our country. Practice has proven that only by rooting and applying artificial intelligence can it unleash greater value. Easy to use, the value lies in inclusiveness, safety, and controllability. Good usability is not a "VIP experience" for a few people, but a digital dividend shared by the whole nation. Currently, open source big models have significantly reduced the threshold and cost of using artificial intelligence, enhancing its inclusiveness. In the future, it is necessary to strengthen aging adaptation and barrier free design to enable more groups to enjoy intelligent services; Optimize the supply of computing power, innovate service models, and enable small and medium-sized enterprises to afford and use AI tools effectively. Good usability must take security as the bottom line, with data compliance, privacy protection, algorithm fairness, and independent and controllable key technologies, to build a trustworthy digital foundation and ensure that everyone can use it with confidence. To drive AI from usable to useful, several transformations still need to be achieved. Technology should shift from focusing on scale to focusing on quality. Computing power, models, platforms, etc. should no longer pursue "maximum, most, and most comprehensive", but instead focus on "efficiency, green, safety, and adaptability", optimizing efficiency and cost while enhancing capabilities; Data is moving from fragmentation to integration, breaking down data barriers and information silos, allowing data elements to flow and exert multiplier effects; The application has shifted from early experimentation to deep industry cultivation, not staying at the shallow level of general scenarios for trial, but rooted in the real economy, customized adaptation for various industries, and scenario based implementation, forcing AI iteration and upgrading to become more user-friendly. Usability is the starting point, usability is the goal. Rooted in demand, serving the public, and empowering entities, China's artificial intelligence can take a distinctive path in global competition, inject more vitality into high-quality development, and enable more people to touch the temperature and texture of the digital age.
