Always hold a reverent heart

2026-05-05

Fear leads to fearlessness and virtue leads to success; fearlessness leads to disaster according to one's desires. Party members and cadres, especially leading cadres, should always have a sense of awe and take the initiative to draw a red line in their thinking and clarify boundaries in their behavior. As President Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized, "Leaders at all levels must firmly establish a correct view of power, maintain a noble spirit of pursuit, respect the people, respect the organization, respect the law and discipline, and exercise power fairly, in accordance with the law, for the people, and with integrity. They must always maintain the political nature of being a Communist Party member who refuses corruption and never sticks to it." Comrade Deng Xiaoping once said, "It is not good for Communist Party members to be cautious and too bold. They are always better afraid of the Party, the masses, and the democratic parties." The so-called "fear" here is the heart of awe. In the history of our party, Comrade Ren Bishi had "three fears": first, he was afraid of having less work, second, he was afraid of having too much money, and third, he was afraid of troubling people. Comrade Peng Dehuai also has "three fears": first, he is afraid of exaggerating, second, he is afraid of becoming famous, and third, he is afraid of the common people scolding him. Those who are good at fearing must have their own righteousness, their words must be regulated, and their actions must be stopped. "This kind of" fear "of communists is not about fearing wolves in the front and tigers in the back, or being timid and not doing anything, but about knowing how to respect, being wary, and keeping the bottom line, doing and not doing anything. Comrade Zhou Enlai once said a very vivid sentence, 'Don't forget the mountains when going down the mountain, and don't forget the countryside when entering the city.'. We come from the people, and our past victories were all achieved with the support of the people. We cannot forget our roots. Comrade Zhou Enlai sees himself as the "chief servant" of the people, and maintains a high degree of love for the people. As long as it is related to the safety and well-being of the people, he always cares for them with great care and attention. The Premier loves the people, and the Premier loves the people. "The people expressed their sincerest feelings towards Comrade Zhou Enlai in simple language. The people are the country, and the country is the people. Our party and army come from the people, are rooted in the people, and serve the people. Once they detach from the masses, they will lose their vitality. Respecting the people means remembering the principles of "water can carry a boat, but it can also capsize a boat" and "when the army wins a battle, the people are the backing", always breathing the same breath, sharing the same fate, and being connected with the people, and always being the trusted offspring of the Party and the people. Comrade Liu Bocheng once said, "Without the Party, people like us will not achieve anything." To respect the organization, we must establish a correct relationship between individuals and the organization, always believe in and rely on the organization, identify with the organization ideologically, rely on the organization politically, obey the organization in work, and trust the organization emotionally. We must strengthen our organizational concept, strictly abide by organizational discipline, consciously maintain the unity and solidarity of the Party, and achieve individual obedience to the organization rather than the organization obeying the individual. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Liu Ligong, a member of the Anti Japanese University, did not obey organizational assignments upon graduation and insisted on entering the Marxist Leninist Academy or returning to his hometown to work, otherwise he would have to resign from the party. The party organization talked to him 7 times, but he still couldn't listen. The Central Party Affairs Committee has decided to expel him from the party and announce it to the whole party. Comrade Chen Yun pointed out in response to this matter that a Communist Party member has the right to express their own opinions and the obligation to unconditionally implement decisions made by the Party when assigning work. In addition, they must not add any rights or conditions, otherwise they will violate the Party's discipline. Law and discipline are like iron, whoever touches them will bleed. ”To revere the law, one must hold the sword of the law high in their heart, hold the ruler of the law tightly in their hands, always have a sense of self-discipline, constantly think about the harm of greed, consciously enhance their political, disciplinary, moral, and anti-corruption abilities, abide by the law at all times and under all circumstances, and not step on the "red line" or touch the "high-voltage line". During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Zhang Aiping served as the Deputy Commander of the 3rd Division of the New Fourth Army. During an organizational parade organized by the entire division, Huang Kecheng, the division commander, happened to have a conversation with him, and he was 4 minutes late. After the parade, Zhang Aiping publicly announced: "Comrade Zhang Aiping, the deputy commander, is 4 minutes late and will be punished by standing for 10 minutes. Each unit should bring it back by themselves, and Zhang Aiping will be punished by standing on the spot." If you want to treat someone, you must first treat yourself. Comrade Zhang Aiping has won praise from officers and soldiers for her adherence to discipline like iron and leading by example. General Li Jukui, who founded the country, never took pride in himself or used his power for personal gain. On his 80th birthday, he wrote this passage in his notebook: "Even if given greater power, I will never use it for personal gain; even if given more money, I will never give up hard work; even if I live to be 80 years old again, I will never stop moving forward." Gu Wenchang insisted that "leaders must first wash their hands and straighten their backs." Yang Shanzhou admitted, "I have power in my hands, but it belongs to the Party and the people. It can only be used to handle official affairs honestly and practically, and cannot be used to handle private affairs." Generation after generation of excellent Communist Party members have established themselves, never forgetting the foundation of being a good person and never shifting their hearts to serving the government. Use power without seeking personal gain, and win the trust and support of the people through practical actions. Power is a double-edged sword. When used properly, it can help build a strong military and achieve success; Improper use can backfire and cause endless harm. For leading cadres, the higher their position and the greater their power, the more cautious they must be. To revere power, one should understand that public power, with the surname "Gong", must also be "Gong". One should always maintain clarity under the halo of power, strictly follow principles, policies, rules, and procedures, and treat power with caution like walking on thin ice or facing an abyss. One should not abuse or use power recklessly, and always be dedicated to serving the public, upright, and spotless. (Looking into the New Era)
