The "Chang'an Wanxiang - Shaanxi Sui and Tang Civilization Exhibition" recently held its opening ceremony at the Hong Kong Museum of History, showcasing the open, inclusive, and prosperous historical atmosphere of the Sui and Tang dynasties through 165 sets of cultural relics unearthed from Shaanxi and Hong Kong. This exhibition is jointly organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau. It is the third special exhibition in the Department's series of Chinese general history, comprehensively presenting the prosperous scene of politics, economy, culture, religion, ethnic exchanges, and foreign exchanges during the Sui and Tang dynasties. At the same time, it showcases Hong Kong's important role as a maritime transportation and trade hub during this period. The exhibits gather cultural relics unearthed from multiple cultural and museum institutions in Shaanxi and Hong Kong, including 18 sets of national first-class cultural relics. The exhibition takes the "Li Fang System" of Chang'an City in the Tang Dynasty as its spatial layout, integrating cultural elements such as Tang poetry, murals, and ancient music. It uses multimedia projection, interactive games, immersive VR and other technologies to present the diverse atmosphere of Chang'an during the prosperous Tang Dynasty, reflecting the superb craftsmanship and multicultural integration of the Sui and Tang dynasties. In her speech, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Rosamund Law, stated that Chang'an, the capital city of the Tang Dynasty, was an international metropolis that the world longed for; Today's Hong Kong, as a center for cultural and artistic exchanges between China and foreign countries, showcases the characteristics of an open and inclusive international metropolis, just like Chang'an during the Sui and Tang dynasties. Both play a crucial role as bridges in cultural and artistic exchanges, reflecting the unique charm of hub cities. Citizens can appreciate the treasures of ancient Chinese civilization and feel the profound heritage and unique charm of Chinese culture at the exhibition. (Looking into the New Era)
