On April 28th, the "T-REX Tyrannosaurus Rex - King of Dinosaurs Special Exhibition" officially opened at the National Natural History Museum and will last until October 11th. This exhibition is not only the first time that the skeleton fossils of Tyrannosaurus rex landed on the Chinese Mainland, but also a collective appearance of the most complete members of the Chinese Tyrannosaurus rex family. While expanding international high-quality cultural resources, it has effectively promoted exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and foreign cultural and museum circles. The exhibition centers around the fossils of the top terrestrial predator, Tyrannosaurus rex, from the Cretaceous period. Through a combination of fossil specimens and scientific reconstructions, it systematically presents the evolutionary history and scientific value of this prehistoric species. Among over a hundred precious exhibits, fossils account for more than 85%, including the young Tyrannosaurus rex "Loki" and the adult Tyrannosaurus rex "Letina" skeleton fossil with a body length of over 12 meters in the collection of the Altem Dinosaur Museum in Germany. The National Natural History Museum has introduced top international exhibition resources with the aim of creating a high-level science popularization platform, enriching the cultural market supply in the capital, and effectively meeting the audience's demand for high-quality exhibitions. In terms of exhibit organization, the exhibition not only focuses on North American tyrannosaurs, but also specifically presents members of the Chinese tyrannosaur family. The collection of Mesozoic top predator specimens, such as Chinese Loong, Yongchuan, Emperor, Feather King, Qianzhou, and Zhucheng Tyrannosaurus, focuses on the behavior characteristics and diversity evolution of Tyrannosaurus dinosaurs in different regions. This is the first time in China that the Chinese tyrannosaur family has been systematically and completely displayed, becoming a highlight of this exhibition in terms of technology and science popularization. In addition, the exhibition also designed and produced multiple scientific restoration models, which realistically reproduced the living habits and survival strategies of Tyrannosaurus rex and other representative members. This exhibition not only focuses on specimen display, but also emphasizes the popularization of science and the transformation of scientific research achievements. The exhibition also set up a special exhibition area to sort out the century long research history of the Tyrannosaurus rex since its discovery and its symbolic evolution in popular culture dissemination, clarifying common misconceptions about the Tyrannosaurus rex from a scientific perspective and helping the public reshape their scientific understanding of this species. The exhibition, co sponsored by the National Natural History Museum, the Altem Dinosaur Museum in Germany, and the Cenoman Culture and Technology (Hainan) Co., Ltd., and guided by the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the latest practice of deepening international cooperation in the field of natural museums in China. As an important paleontological research institution in Europe, the successful introduction of specimens from the Altem Dinosaur Museum in Germany marks a solid step forward for China's natural science exhibitions in enhancing their international level and building high-quality science popularization brands. During the exhibition, the organizers will also hold a series of popular science education activities to further promote the popularization of paleontology knowledge among the public.
