High incidence of nasal diseases in late spring and early summer, expert recruitment for scientific nose care

In response to the widespread concern about nasal health among the public, Professor Hong Haiyu, Chief Physician of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat sen University, recently summarized the coping methods for common nasal diseases in clinical practice during an interview, helping the public to scientifically protect their noses. In late spring and early summer, the temperature in Guangdong fluctuates and the humidity is high, causing continuous pollen dispersal and a high incidence of nasal diseases. The nasal cavity, as the first line of defense for human respiration, directly affects the overall respiratory quality of the body. Hong Haiyu introduced that among the common nasal diseases in spring, allergic rhinitis is the type with the highest outpatient volume. The warm and humid climate in Guangdong easily makes the nasal mucosa in a sensitive state. Outdoor airborne pollen such as kapok and eucalyptus continue to disperse, and indoor dust mites and fungi are also more active. People with allergies have become a high-risk group. Typical symptoms include paroxysmal continuous sneezing, watery nasal discharge, nasal itching, often accompanied by nasal congestion and eye itching, and the symptoms are prone to recurrence and persistence. Regarding the treatment of allergic rhinitis, Hong Haiyu emphasized the need to follow a step-by-step standardization principle: mild patients should use antihistamines or nasal corticosteroids as the core, combined with physiological saline for daily nasal washing; If conventional drugs have poor efficacy in moderate to severe patients, targeted biologics such as streptavidin monoclonal antibody can be selected after evaluation by a doctor, which can accurately block the allergic inflammatory pathway and help smooth out the allergy season. All treatments must be carried out according to the doctor's advice for a full course of treatment, and do not self medicate or stop medication at will. Besides allergic rhinitis, sinusitis with nasal polyps is another type of difficult nasal disease to treat. Hong Haiyu explained that long-term inflammatory stimulation leads to edema and hyperplasia of the nasal mucosa, gradually forming nasal polyps. Patients may experience persistent nasal congestion, purulent nasal discharge, decreased sense of smell, headaches, and other discomforts, seriously affecting their quality of life. Due to the concealed growth location and easy recurrence of nasal polyps, clinical diagnosis and treatment face challenges. For patients who are unable to undergo surgery or prone to postoperative recurrence, biological targeted drugs such as streptavidin monoclonal antibody can also be used for treatment. This drug has been included in the national medical insurance catalog, significantly reducing the medication burden for patients who meet reimbursement requirements. Hong Haiyu reminds the public that nasal health cannot be ignored. If symptoms such as nasal discomfort and decreased sense of smell occur, do not judge medication on your own. Especially when the symptoms persist or recur, seek timely medical attention at a regular hospital, identify the cause through nasal endoscopy, allergen testing, etc., and receive targeted treatment and protection.
