On April 23, 2026, at the Ailun Bay Abalone Port in Rongcheng City, Shandong Province, aquaculture workers unloaded abalone that had "overwintered" from a transport ship from Fujian and transported them to the aquaculture area for further cultivation. This batch of abalone went south to Fujian to escape the cold in November last year, and after a six-month "wintering" journey, they successfully returned to Rongcheng by live water boat, starting the summer breeding season. The timely return of abalone to the north to escape the heat marks the efficient operation of China's "migratory bird" abalone farming model once again. In response to the impact of low temperatures in winter on aquaculture, since 2004, Rongcheng City in Shandong Province and other places in Fujian Province have cooperated to carry out the "north-south transition" and "migratory bird style" aquaculture mode for abalone in winter and summer, in order to avoid the impact of temperature differences in the sea between the north and south on abalone production and quality.
