The cross departmental working group meeting on festival arrangements of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government was held on the 20th, deploying various government departments to prepare for the reception of visitors to Hong Kong during the May Day holiday in mainland China. The Immigration Department expects that about 980000 mainland tourists will enter Hong Kong through various sea, land, and air traffic control stations during the holiday period, an increase of about 7% compared to 2025. On the same day, the Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chen Guoji, presided over a meeting and said that during the May Day holiday in mainland China, the number of visitors to Hong Kong is expected to increase. The SAR government will make preparations to receive visitors to Hong Kong, maintain close contact with relevant institutions and the tourism industry, manage the flow of people, release information, arrange public transportation and various ports, quickly respond to various emergencies, ensure smooth operation of various reception links for visitors, and provide a high-quality experience for visitors to Hong Kong. The Tourism Regulatory Bureau and the industry estimate that about 770 mainland tour groups entered Hong Kong during the May Day holiday. To ease the flow of people and vehicles, the port department has reduced the vacation time of frontline personnel to flexibly allocate manpower, and will open inspection counters, temporary counters, and passages. MTR Corporation will strengthen train services at different times from April 30th to May 5th. The Transport Department of the Special Administrative Region Government has formulated a plan to implement special traffic management arrangements at the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang Port, and Shenzhen Bay Port when necessary, including the activation of dedicated public transportation channels. The Hong Kong Tourism Board will also launch a tourism information page to strengthen the promotion of Hong Kong tourism in mainland China, hoping to attract tourists to visit Hong Kong, extend their stay, and promote consumption.
