The Intellectual Property Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government held a cocktail party on the 21st to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day. About 180 guests attended the reception, including industry professionals, scholars, consular representatives, government officials, as well as representatives from public institutions and the business community from the legal and intellectual property related organizations. The Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Paul Chan, stated in his speech at the reception that the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area currently has nearly 820000 valid invention patents, accounting for nearly one sixth of the national total. The country fully supports Hong Kong's development into a regional intellectual property trading center, and the "15th Five Year Plan" outline once again confirms Hong Kong's role in this regard. In this year's budget, the SAR government is promoting intellectual property work from three aspects, including improving the tax system, promoting intellectual property valuation and financing, and cultivating talents. The Director of Intellectual Property Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Wong Fuk lai, stated that the government is assisting enterprises in fully utilizing intellectual property for financing and commercialization, and is committed to promoting intellectual property education and providing relevant training for professionals in various industries.
