Humanoid robot 'runs' out of acceleration

2026-04-22

On April 19th, the 2026 Beijing Yizhuang Half Marathon and Humanoid Robot Half Marathon started shooting, with over a hundred unique humanoid robot teams competing on the same stage. In the end, Honor's self-developed "Lightning" robot won the championship with a net time of 50 minutes and 26 seconds. This achievement surpasses the human half marathon world record and shows a significant improvement compared to last year's robot champion's time of 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds. Humanoid robots run faster and more steadily, which is the most intuitive feeling people have about this competition. Behind the faster and more stable development is essentially the faster and stronger growth of the industry. This half marathon race of humanoid robots, full of technological sense, is a microcosm of the accelerated iteration and upgrading of China's humanoid robot industry, reflecting that China's humanoid robots are accelerating towards various real application scenarios. In recent years, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence, robotics and other technologies, China's self-developed humanoid robots such as "Traveler Mount Taishan", "Tiangong" and "Qinglong" have frequently broken the circle. As one of the key areas for future industrial development, China's humanoid robots are moving from laboratories to various industries. With the dual empowerment of technological breakthroughs and scene implementation, they have become a new highland of technological competition and a new driving force for high-quality economic development. The "2025 Humanoid Robot Market Research Report" shows that by 2025, the number of Chinese humanoid robot complete machine enterprises will exceed 140, with a shipment volume of about 14400 units, accounting for 84.7% of the global total shipment volume. The market size will reach 1.55 billion yuan, accounting for about 53.8% of the global market. The booming development of China's humanoid robot industry is driven by multiple factors such as policy guidance, market drive, and technological innovation. From the "Guiding Opinions on the Innovation and Development of Humanoid Robots" issued in 2023, which clearly defined the "timetable" for the development of humanoid robots, to the inclusion of "embodied intelligence" as one of the future industries with forward-looking layout in the "Government Work Report" for two consecutive years from 2025, to the official release of the "Humanoid Robot and Embodied Intelligence Standard System (2026 Edition)" this year, which clearly covers the top-level design of standards for the entire industry chain and life cycle of humanoid robots... The country has progressed from macro strategic planning to the construction of special standard systems, laying a solid institutional guarantee for the steady development of the humanoid robot industry. Riding on the policy wind, a future oriented industrial competition is becoming increasingly fierce, and the development of the humanoid robot industry is pressing the fast forward button. The first provincial-level humanoid robot innovation center in China has been established in Beijing; The world's first humanoid robot with certification in China, the United States, and Europe has been born in Shanghai; The first automated production line for 10000 level humanoid robots in China has been officially launched in Guangdong... China's humanoid robots are moving towards more advanced and intelligent directions, with numerous technological achievements and expanding application scenarios, entering a new stage of large-scale production. The multi scenario application of these intelligent and flexible humanoid robots brings infinite new possibilities to people's production and life. For example, in industrial manufacturing scenarios, humanoid robots can complete tasks such as intelligent handling, precision assembly, and remote operation, freeing people from tedious work. In sports and entertainment scenes, humanoid robots can undertake tasks such as event logistics support, skill demonstrations, and simulated character performances, enriching the presentation forms of entertainment activities. In the home service scenario, humanoid robots can provide basic household chores, intelligent companionship, health management, and other functions to meet people's living and emotional needs. In business office scenarios, humanoid robots can perform basic administrative tasks such as guiding visitors, answering inquiries, and providing conference services, alleviating employees' transactional work pressure. In extreme environmental scenarios, humanoid robots can perform high-risk operations such as high-temperature inspections, emergency rescue, reconnaissance and explosive disposal, replacing humans to complete dangerous work activities. Despite its broad prospects, overall, China's humanoid robot industry is still in its infancy, and achieving high-quality development of the industry still faces multiple challenges such as technological breakthroughs, data security, scene expansion, and ethical dilemmas. In this regard, we should adhere to the governance ideas of forward-looking layout, systematic planning, and prudent responsibility, strengthen the coordination and linkage among the government, society, and market, accelerate the research and development of key common technologies and the localization of supply chains, establish and improve industrial technology standards and supporting norms, accumulate high-quality data based on scene advantages, and improve laws, regulations, and safety ethics systems. We should promote the landing and application of humanoid robots in a graded and classified manner, and help China's humanoid robot industry seize the initiative and win the initiative in global competition. It can be foreseen that with the rapid iteration of technology, future humanoid robots will become more intelligent, flexible, and emotional, better and faster integrated into daily life, empowering various industries, becoming capable assistants and good partners of humans, and bringing people more convenient, safe, and efficient production and life experiences.
