I am willing to be an ordinary Gesang flower on the snowy plateau, guarding the people and soldiers on this land

The wind from the snowy plateau, carrying a chilling chill, swept over the grasslands of Sagar County in Shigatse, as well as the winding camps. My fate with the plateau began in such winds. On the eve of the Spring Festival that year, the hospital received an urgent task to carry out liver hydatid disease screening in Tibet. Upon hearing this news, I immediately found the leading department to register. After intensive preparations for the debugging of ultrasound instruments and the sorting of screening materials, the ultrasound medical team boarded a plane to Lhasa on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month. Before leaving, my family reminded me to "pay attention to safety and work hard for my fellow villagers." This understanding became the warm confidence for me to rush to the plateau. Upon first arriving in the snowy region, the grandeur of the Snow Peak Pure Land is awe inspiring. But this novelty was quickly engulfed by the surging altitude sickness. After arriving in Lhasa, we immediately drove to Shigatsaga County. The car circled up the rugged mountain road, with the altitude climbing inch by inch. The team members gradually showed symptoms of blue lips, nausea, and fatigue. After 9 hours of turbulence, we finally arrived at Saga. As soon as I got off the car, the piercing cold wind rushed towards me and kept thrusting towards my collar. Our comrade who took over said, 'The villagers have been looking forward to your arrival for a long time.' Upon hearing this, everyone rallied and prepared to engage in battle. The next morning, before dawn, a long queue had already formed outside the medical center. The herdsmen wrapped themselves in Tibetan robes, supporting the elderly and children, waiting quietly in the cold wind. At that time, I was still suffering from altitude sickness, with a headache that felt like it was about to explode, and every breath was difficult to catch. But when the fingers held the ultrasound probe and faced the first herder, all the discomfort was thrown behind their heads. I inserted a nasal cannula into myself, kept my eyes fixed on the screen, and carefully performed every scan and diagnosis. On this day, I operated continuously for 11 hours and completed 301 ultrasound examinations. When I finished the final examination, I raised my hand to turn off the instrument, but suddenly felt a spin around and almost fainted next to the instrument. This incident was heard by a leader of the People's Government of the Xizang Autonomous Region at that time. She came specially and hugged me in her arms, her voice choked up as she said, "You've worked hard. The villagers in the Tibetan region all remember your kindness! You're like a Gesang flower in the snow, blooming where we need it the most." The herdsmen also surrounded me, saying thank you repeatedly in their not so fluent Chinese. At that moment, the cold wind in the snowy area seemed to become warm. I deeply understand that as a military doctor, protecting life is an unchanging mission no matter where you are. Looking at the smiles on the faces of the Tibetan people, I am even more convinced that everything I have done is worth it. As time passes, this protection of the plateau has taken on a new form due to the development of technology. In response to the practical problems of inconvenient transportation in high-altitude border defense, weak specialized forces, and long evacuation and treatment cycles, our hospital's ultrasound department has independently developed a 5G remote robot ultrasound system and stationed it at a normalized medical support point in Nagqu. The system relies on 5G network to achieve real-time synchronization of operations, images, and voice, and the medical forces in the rear can cross thousands of miles to provide remote diagnosis and treatment for border soldiers. And I, with the original intention of guarding the plateau, became a member of the control system. A soldier woke up in the morning screaming uncontrollably, blood pressure cannot be measured, and blood oxygen saturation is only 40%. Urgent consultation is requested! ”One morning, the telephone of the office rang suddenly, and the sound of asking for help from the Xizang frontier medical station spread thousands of miles away. Illness is command, time is life. We immediately organized an expert group to quickly activate the 5G remote robot ultrasound system, and a life and death rescue mission spanning thousands of miles began. The ultrasound doctor's fingertips landed on the control panel, carefully operating the robotic arm at the high altitude end to perform an echocardiogram examination for this critically ill soldier. Quickly, the examination results clearly showed that the soldier's heart had significantly enlarged and myocardial movement had significantly weakened. Based on the symptoms described by the on-site medical staff, the expert group quickly assessed and determined that it was cardiogenic shock caused by acute myocarditis. At the critical moment of life and death, there was no room for hesitation. The leader of the expert group decisively issued the order for treatment: "Immediately administer high-dose hormone shock intravenously to correct the shock state and maintain stable circulation and volume!" Despite being thousands of miles apart, the hearts at both ends of the screen were tightly connected. Experts closely monitor the screen, paying attention to every vital indicator, constantly adjusting treatment details based on real-time conditions, and remotely guiding on-site operations such as fluid replacement and physical sign monitoring. At the high-altitude medical point thousands of miles away, medical staff acted quickly according to orders, with every step being tense and orderly, including venipuncture and medication injection. Time passed by minute by minute, and 10 minutes later, a breath of relief finally came from thousands of miles away: blood pressure began to rise, blood oxygen saturation gradually increased, the condition tended to stabilize, and vital signs slowly returned to normal. The giant stone hanging in everyone's hearts fell to the ground, and the expert group immediately instructed the on-site personnel to prepare for subsequent transportation and safely transfer the soldier to a higher-level hospital for further treatment. Watching the figure of the soldier being smoothly lifted onto the transport vehicle in the remote system, my heart is filled with emotion. From using handheld ultrasound probes to screen Tibetan people, to operating remote robots to rescue border soldiers thousands of miles away, what has changed is the way of guarding and distance, and what remains unchanged is the compassion and mission of doctors and soldiers engraved in their bones and blood. The long wind still lingers in the snowy region, and the Gesang flowers bloom here every year. I am willing to be an ordinary Gesang flower on the snowy plateau, guarding the people and soldiers on this land with professional skills and sincerity. (New Society)
