April 15th this year is the 11th National Security Education Day for all citizens. In recent days, various sectors in Hong Kong have carried out a series of national security education activities with diverse forms and rich content, creating a strong atmosphere for safeguarding national security throughout the territory, further enhancing the national security awareness and patriotism of Hong Kong citizens, and laying a solid foundation for the security of Hong Kong's governance and development. In response to the National Security Education Day, eight disciplinary and auxiliary forces under the Security Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government held open day activities on different weekends from the end of March to mid April at military training institutes, museums, headquarters, branches, and other locations. Through immersive and interactive experiences, Hong Kong citizens were able to experience the solid strength of safeguarding national security and urban peace up close. On March 29th, the Special Administrative Region Government Flying Service held an open day and the establishment ceremony of the Aviation Guidance International College of the Special Administrative Region Government Flying Service at its Kai Tak branch. The on-site search and rescue flight performance was tense and realistic, with helicopter hovering, rescuer descent, and casualty transfer all completed in one go; Interactive experiences such as VR simulated flight, emergency training, and national security knowledge competitions allow citizens to learn about national security knowledge through fun participation. Ms. Guo, a citizen, participated in this open day event with her daughter. She stated that the child actively participated in various activities and even received souvenirs from the flight service team, which helps to stimulate their interest in national security knowledge. On April 12th, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Police Force held the "National Security Education Day 2026 and Police Citizen Fun Day" event at Admiralty Tizi Park. At the event site, there is a national security education exhibition area modeled after the shape of a ship called "Hugang", and through vivid and interesting games, it conveys the concept of "national security, everyone's responsibility, and I can do it" to the public, especially the younger generation. On April 12th, the Fire Services Department of the Special Administrative Region Government also held an open day at the Tseung Kwan O Fire and Ambulance College to deepen citizens' understanding of national security and their work in maintaining national security, public order, and safety. The event attracted over 9000 citizens to participate. Deng Bingqiang, Director of the Security Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government, stated in a joint interview with Xinhua News Agency and other media that the work of safeguarding national security can only be strengthened and cannot be relaxed. The series of open day activities not only showcase the professional abilities of the disciplinary forces, but also promote the deepening of national security awareness and guide the whole society to jointly safeguard national security and Hong Kong stability. The promotion of campus national security education system for young people is the future of the country and the hope of Hong Kong. The Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has organically integrated national education and national security education into the campus teaching system. Through the production of learning and teaching resources, the organization of teacher training, and student activities, it supports schools in systematically planning and promoting national education and national security education, cultivating students to become patriotic and Hong Kong loving talents. The national security education curriculum framework for 27 subjects, online learning platform for national security education, and reference works for national security education lesson plan design are abundant and diverse learning and teaching resources related to national education and national security education on the website of the Education Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government. These carefully organized resources can help students have a correct understanding of the constitutional relationship between the country and Hong Kong, deepen their understanding of the national situation, and understand the importance of national security to both the country and Hong Kong. Cai Ruolian, Director of the Education Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government, introduced that the Education Bureau continues to optimize the "National Education One Stop" online resource platform, which covers topics such as the Constitution, Basic Law, national security education, Chinese history and culture, museum learning, etc., providing timely, accurate, and systematic teaching support for teachers and students. Starting from the 2022/2023 academic year, as of mid March this year, the platform has received over 2.47 million clicks. In addition to online resources, the Education Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government also distributes a number of high-quality national education and national security education books to schools, such as "Our Country, Our Security", "Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Maintenance of National Security Law Reader", "Hong Kong and Kowloon Brigade Chronicle (Revised Edition)", etc., in the form of picture books, readers, historical materials and other reading materials that are suitable for students of different age groups, enhancing the infectiousness and pertinence of education. Cai Ruolian said that in today's Hong Kong schools, middle school students, primary school students, and kindergarten children can sing the national anthem loudly and take pride in being a part of the country. On the occasion of the 11th National Security Education Day, people from all walks of life in Hong Kong have expressed that national security is the cornerstone of Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. We must adhere to the coordinated development and security, gather the strength of the whole society to jointly build a security barrier, and safeguard the high-quality development of Hong Kong with high-level security. On the morning of April 15th, the flag raising ceremony for National Security Education Day was held at the Hong Kong Police College. Amidst the solemn national anthem, the five starred red flag slowly rose. The Chief Secretary for Administration of the Special Administrative Region, Chen Guoji, presided over the ceremony and delivered a speech, stating that the SAR government has always attached great importance to the annual National Security Education Day for all citizens. With the concerted efforts of the SAR government and various sectors of society, the overall national security concept has entered campuses and communities, and the consciousness and sense of mission of the whole society to safeguard national security have reached an unprecedented height. The President of the Education University of Hong Kong, Li Zijian, said in an interview with reporters that safeguarding national security is only ongoing and not completed. We are all stakeholders and beneficiaries of national security, as well as guardians and responsible persons of national security. The Commissioner of Police of the Special Administrative Region, Zhou Yiming, said that there are no "outsiders" in safeguarding national security, and every Hong Kong citizen should fulfill their responsibility to contribute to safeguarding national security. He hopes that citizens can enhance their national security awareness and jointly safeguard national security and Hong Kong stability through the National Security Education Day activities. The Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Paul Chan, stated that in the face of constantly changing new situations, Hong Kong must place security at the core of its development and solidify the foundation of security through high-quality development.
