On April 9th local time, the Berlin Chinese Cultural Center held a series of lectures titled "Riding China: Himalaya, Silk Road, and Revisiting the Long March" under the theme of "Chinese Stories". German writer Volk H ä ring was invited to share his observations and reflections on cycling China with Carl Schmitt, using visual materials. At the beginning of 2024, Falk and Keliss set off from Ruijin, Jiangxi and rode along the Chinese Long March route. The entire journey took 138 days and spanned nearly 7000 kilometers. In October 2025, their book "The Long March of Cycling - Crossing 7000 Kilometers of China" documenting their experience was published. This cycling not only restored the important nodes of the Long March route, but also allowed them to personally experience and perceive that arduous and remarkable history. In the process of crossing different geographical regions, they also recorded China's rich and diverse ethnic culture and natural landscapes. Falk told reporters that the experience of cycling in China was exciting and fascinating, and they hope to tell these stories to more people. As a seasoned cycling enthusiast, Falk travels to China every year. Later on, he met like-minded person Chris and the two hit it off immediately, deciding to complete the ride together. In addition to his experience riding the Long March, Falk also shared his cycling experiences in the Himalayan region and along the Silk Road, presenting a three-dimensional and diverse image of China. Coleridge believes that it is not enough to rely solely on books and articles to truly educate the Western public about China. Personal experience is particularly important. He pointed out that more and more bloggers and content creators are going to China to record what they see and hear through videos, which has positive significance. As long as you go and see for yourself, people will naturally form a more objective judgment. "On the evening of the event, the electronic screen in the hall of the Berlin Chinese Cultural Center played a video of the Long March theme in a loop. The staff introduced China's continuously optimized entry facilitation measures to German friends, sincerely welcoming more German and European people to come into China and experience the vigorous development vitality, open and inclusive social style, and magnificent natural scenery of contemporary China up close. After the lecture, there was a lively interaction between the audience and the speaker, and the atmosphere was harmonious and lively. Audience member Katherine Klut lived in China for 12 years. She said that although she has visited many places such as Hangzhou, Qingdao, Harbin, etc., she has not yet been along the Long March route. This time, she came specifically to listen to Falk's sharing, recalling her experience in China while also revisiting that magnificent history. Former German Consul General in Shanghai, Rui Wufeng, stated that cycling is an ideal way to gain a deeper understanding of China, allowing people to better immerse themselves in the environment, experience scenery and culture more deeply, and obtain direct and authentic experiences.
