On April 10th, the National Bureau of Statistics released data showing that in March, consumer demand seasonally declined after the Spring Festival holiday. The national Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by 0.7% month on month and increased by 1.0% year-on-year. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, increased by 1.1% year-on-year. Affected by factors such as the rapid rise in international commodity prices and the improvement of supply and demand in some domestic industries, the Producer Price Index (PPI) for industrial producers increased by 1.0% month on month and 0.5% year-on-year. Statistics show that food prices increased by 0.3% year-on-year, while non food prices increased by 1.2%; Consumer goods prices increased by 1.3%, and service prices increased by 0.8%. Dong Lijuan, Chief Statistician of the Urban Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, introduced that the national CPI continued to maintain a moderate year-on-year increase, with the growth rate slightly falling back to 1.0%. The national CPI decreased by 0.7% month on month, mainly due to the seasonal drop in food and service prices. In addition, the national PPI increased by 0.5% year-on-year, instead of a 0.9% decrease last month, marking the first increase after 41 consecutive months of decline. There are two characteristics of the year-on-year operation of PPI this month: firstly, international input factors have affected the price increase or decrease of related industries in China, and secondly, the supply and demand relationship of some industries in China has improved, resulting in price increases.
