Wang Zhongxin, recipient of the August 1st Medal, leads veteran volunteers to actively engage in volunteer service
2026-04-10
Not long ago, a seventy year old man went missing in Huangcun, Xiuning County, Anhui Province. The news came that Wang Zhongxin, the recipient of the "August 1st Medal", immediately signed up for the rescue mission with his "Hui Camel" veteran rescue team. Under the cover of night, Wang Zhongxin led his team to carry professional equipment and conducted a carpet style search in three directions in the mountainous area where the incident occurred. After nearly two hours, the team finally discovered the elderly person who had fallen on the grassy slope at the foot of the mountain. Wang Zhongxin stepped forward quickly, comforting the elderly while leading the way to lift the stretcher and escort them back home steadily. Before, the team was a bit scattered, but after the old squad leader joined, everyone had a backbone. ”The captain of the rescue team, Cao Xinfeng, who participated in the rescue together, looked at Wang Zhongxin's back with admiration in his eyes. In 2022, with the belief of "retiring without fading and serving the people", with the help of the County Veterans Affairs Bureau, Cao Xinfeng formed the "Hui Camel" Veterans Rescue Team with more than ten veterans. Naming it 'Hui Camel' is to encourage everyone to be like camels, fearless of difficulties, willing to bear heavy burdens, and selfless dedication, "said Cao Xinfeng. However, during the start-up period, the operation and management of rescue teams were relatively loose: task assembly relied on temporary calls, equipment management lacked standardized ledgers, rescue operations lacked standard procedures, and many tasks relied on the experience of team members. During a search and rescue mission in the mountains, due to a lack of on-site analysis, the team members blindly split up and almost encountered danger due to unfamiliarity with the complex terrain. Everyone's heart is aligned, they all want to do good things, but their strength hasn't completely twisted into a rope. ”Cao Xinfeng recalled that the veterans each had their own strengths, but when they gathered together, it was inevitable that they would hold their own opinions. "The key is the lack of a 'leader' who can convince everyone." Wang Zhongxin's arrival was like a timely rain. In December 2022, it was heard that the "Hui Camel" veteran rescue team had been established in his hometown, and retired Wang Zhongxin joined without hesitation. Upon learning that the 'War King' has arrived, everyone should not be too excited! ”Cao Xinfeng told me that Wang Zhongxin's deeds in the army have long been well-known, and the team members sincerely admire him. Since then, whether in daily training or task execution, everyone has taken Wang Zhongxin as a benchmark and consciously followed his example. And the military stories shared by Wang Zhongxin have become everyone's' spiritual food '. After joining the team, Wang Zhongxin insisted on being at the forefront, whether it was mountain search and rescue, water rescue, clearing beehives, or searching for lost people. Whenever there was a task, he always signed up as soon as possible. Shouting loudly, it's better to show off. ”This is a phrase that Wang Zhongxin often talks about, and it is also a principle that he has always practiced. In the summer of 2024, Xiuning County was hit by extremely heavy rainstorm, a village in Xikou Town was surrounded by flood, communication was interrupted, and dozens of villagers were trapped. Upon receiving the rescue mission, Wang Zhongxin immediately rushed to the assembly point. 15 minutes later, he arrived at the disaster site with 18 team members. At that time, the bridge leading to the village had been washed away, and the flood was rushing rapidly, with water depth reaching chest level. Wang Zhongxin didn't hesitate at all: 'I'm good at swimming, I'll explore ahead!' He tied his safety rope tightly, held a probe in hand, and plunged into the murky flood first, groping forward while reminding his teammates behind him to avoid danger. After arriving at the village, he quickly commanded the team members to form groups: one group set up temporary rope passages, one group knocked on doors to search and rescue, and one group drove assault boats to evacuate the crowd. After fighting continuously for nearly 10 hours, they successfully evacuated the trapped people safely. After the retirement of the old class leader, he could have enjoyed his old age peacefully, but he kept moving forward and charging forward. What reason do we have not to follow closely? ”The scene of that rescue is vividly remembered by team member Zhu Kun. At that time, a residential building was on the verge of collapse, and a little girl was trapped on the second floor. At a critical moment, Wang Zhongxin decisively broke through the window and climbed up to the second floor, putting on his life jacket for the girl and working hard to rescue her. When carrying out tasks, Wang Zhongxin bravely set an example; When managing the team, he is everyone's' star '. He drew on the experience of the military, suggested and took the lead in implementing standardized equipment management systems and emergency response mechanisms. At the same time, we adhere to the principle of "knowing people and appointing them well", and clarify the division of labor based on the strengths of team members: equipment management and maintenance, material registration and registration, medical support, etc., with clear rights and responsibilities, and accountability to individuals. Under the management mode of "everyone has a responsibility and each performs their own duties", the emergency response speed and collaborative efficiency of the team have been significantly improved, and the time for handling dangerous situations has been shortened by nearly one-third. Only by mastering true skills can one withstand critical moments. ”Wang Zhongxin, who has been deeply involved in the missile industry for many years, knows that to do a good job, courage and passion alone are far from enough. Professional excellence is the ultimate principle. To this end, he actively worked to coordinate with military and civilian units, seeking opportunities for team members to visit, learn, and participate in training programs, helping everyone improve their abilities and fill in their gaps. Team member Luo Zhiyong benefited from this: "I used to feel enthusiastic, fearless of danger, and not afraid of not being able to complete tasks. But after truly witnessing the level of professional teams, I realized how big the gap is." In the second half of last year, after more than two months of training at the county fire brigade, he systematically learned more practical rescue skills, and his personal abilities and professional qualities have reached a new level. After returning to the team, he sorted out the knowledge he had learned and printed the "Practical Manual" at his own expense to distribute to his teammates. In addition, he also led the formation of a special learning group to conduct simulation exercises for different scenarios such as searching for people and emergency rescue, based on what he had learned. Through the closed loop of "learning, practicing, and applying", the "enthusiasm" has gained more professional confidence. In addition to voluntary rescue, Wang Zhongxin also regularly organizes team members to visit local veterans and retired soldiers in difficult living conditions, and helps students from families in need. Student Xiao Fang's father passed away, his mother remarried, and he relied on his grandmother for survival. Wang Zhongxin organized team members and caring enterprises to donate money and goods, and regularly visited Xiao Fang's home to have heart to heart conversations and provide voluntary counseling. Seeing Xiaofang's cheerful and confident demeanor is more gratifying than seeing her improve her grades, "said team member Zhou Xinfang. Old soldiers are also soldiers. As long as our fellow villagers need us, we will charge ahead. ”Wang Zhongxin, who had finished the rescue, breathed a sigh of relief. He heard someone calling him "old squad leader" on the scene and someone applauding for him and the team members. Yes, in everyone's eyes, veterans are always trustworthy. (New Society)
