The BASF (Guangdong) integrated base project was fully put into operation on the 26th in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. The total investment of this project is approximately 8.7 billion euros, making it the largest wholly-owned individual project invested by a German company in China. BASF (Guangdong) Integrated Base is BASF's third largest base globally, independently operated and managed by BASF. BASF is a globally renowned chemical company. BASF Group's Chairman of the Executive Board, Kelly, said, 'This investment demonstrates our long-term confidence in China, the world's largest chemical market.'. At present, BASF (Guangdong) integrated base has put into operation 18 sets of equipment and 32 production lines, among which the annual production of 1 million tons of ethylene complex is the core equipment, and polyethylene, acrylic acid and esters, formaldehyde and other downstream equipment. Ethylene is an important raw material in the chemical industry. This base can produce a large amount of high value-added chemical raw materials, as well as more than 70 types of products such as intermediates and specialty chemicals, which are widely used in industries such as transportation, consumer goods, electronics, home care, and personal care. The interviewed experts believe that as the largest foreign investment project in China's petrochemical industry, this base can inject new momentum into the industry. It is reported that through integrated integration, process innovation, and the application of renewable energy, BASF (Guangdong) integrated base can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 50% compared to traditional petrochemical bases. With long-term green power direct purchase agreements and investment projects in offshore wind farms, the base can achieve 100% renewable energy supply. BASF announced the launch of the BASF (Guangdong) integrated base project in 2018. Subsequently, the foundation of the base was laid in 2019, and the first set of equipment was put into operation in 2022 to produce engineering plastics. At the end of 2025 to the beginning of 2026, the first batch of products from the core equipment of the base will start production, and the ethylene complex will be put into operation at an excessive speed. By 2025, approximately 14% of BASF's consolidated sales will come from China. With the commissioning of BASF's integrated base in Guangdong, BASF expects this proportion to increase to 15% -20% in the future. This base provides an important platform for BASF's development in China, "said Lin Hanping, BASF's President of Large Projects in Asia. The stable and positive trend of the Chinese economy and the measures to expand high-level opening up to the outside world have attracted foreign enterprises to firmly hold onto their positions. In 2025, China will establish 70392 foreign-invested enterprises, a year-on-year increase of 19.1%. The "15th Five Year Plan" outline, which was reviewed and approved by the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference this year, proposes to leverage the demonstration effect of iconic foreign investment projects and guide more foreign investment into advanced manufacturing, modern services, high-tech, energy conservation and environmental protection fields. Li Yunpeng, President of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, said that the full operation of the base is a model for foreign-funded enterprises to seize new opportunities for China's development and deeply integrate into the Chinese market. It also once again confirms that the Chinese market is the core strategic pivot for multinational enterprises to achieve long-term profitability and sustainable growth. (New Society)
