The key control project of the Lion Ocean Passage, the core hub project of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, the Lion Ocean Bridge, achieved the topping out of the east and west main towers at around 11:00 am on the 26th and entered the upper structure construction stage. The Shiziyang Channel is 35 kilometers long. The main project consists of the Shiziyang Bridge, the main bridge across the river, and the land lead project. It crosses the throat at the top of the "A" shape at the mouth of the the Pearl River River and connects Nansha District in Guangzhou and Shatian and Humen towns in Dongguan. It is another important destination for the development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Based on the comprehensive consideration of factors such as the high level of economic development in surrounding cities, dense waterways, and scarce resources of river crossing routes, the Lion Ocean Channel has chosen to construct a suspension bridge with a main span of 2180 meters, "crossing the river in one go", and adopt a design scheme of double layered 16 lanes on top and bottom - which not only conforms to the concept of green agglomeration development, but also anticipates the long-term growth needs of the layout. After the completion of the project, it will set five world records for the double decker suspension bridge in terms of "main span, number of lanes, main tower height, anchorage diameter, and main cable diameter". The Lion Ocean Bridge has east and west main towers, with a height of 342 meters, equivalent to 110 floors. The combined effect of intelligent equipment, refined management, and process optimization is clearly evident on the progress curve of the main tower construction: from the first 100 meters taking one year, to the second 100 meters taking six months, and then to the third 100 meters taking only four months, it has set a new industry record for the highest efficiency of up to six days per section. The verticality deviation of the 300 meter high tower is within 10 millimeters, far exceeding the required indicators. On April 9, 2023, the first main pier pile foundation of the bridge was drilled. Up to now, after nearly three years of construction, the east and west main towers have been capped. Next, the bridge will carry out preparations for cable saddle hoisting and catwalk installation, with plans to achieve pilot cable crossing over the river in the second half of the year. The anchor construction is underway, and the lead engineering has fully shifted to the construction of the upper structure, continuing to advance the installation of prefabricated beams and the pushing operation of steel truss beams. Liu Xiaohua, general manager of Guangdong Communications Group, said: "Next, we should continue to implement smart manufacturing and realize technological empowerment, provide replicable and promotable 'Guangdong experience' for the construction of super long-span suspension bridges, and inject strong momentum into the high-quality development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area."
