The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology recently released two consecutive reports, systematically summarizing the development trend of the digital economy in China and globally in 2025. Two reports show that the position of the digital economy in China's national economy has further improved. By 2024, the scale of China's digital economy will steadily increase to 59.2 trillion yuan, accounting for 43.8% of GDP, an increase of 1 percentage point from the previous year. From a global perspective, the digital economy has entered a new cycle of intelligent transition driven by general artificial intelligence. The Research Report on the Development of China's Digital Economy (2025) shows that the high-quality development capability of China's digital industry continues to strengthen, with rapid development of 5G, computing power, artificial intelligence, and other technologies, and the industry's ability to create value continues to improve. Digital transformation is shifting from single point efficiency improvement to systematic change, and AI driven digital transformation is entering the stage of large-scale application. The report points out that at the macro level, the total factor productivity of the digital economy effectively supports stable economic growth. From 2013 to 2024, the contribution rate of total factor productivity of China's digital economy to economic growth increased from 16.30% to 23.75%, supporting the continuous improvement of China's economic development efficiency. At the micro level, digital transformation significantly reduces costs and expands enterprise profit margins. For every 1% increase in digital investment, the main business cost rate decreases by 9.17%, and the cost expense profit margin increases by 6.71%. Calculations show that digital development is most effective in reducing the costs of enterprise research and development, production, and management processes. The Global Digital Economy Development Research Report (2025) shows that the digital economy has become the national strategic core of various economies, and digital strategies are fully integrated into the top-level design of national development. Artificial intelligence governance and independent cutting-edge technologies have become the focus of international competition, and industrial digitization is deeply evolving towards full chain and ecological development. The global digital competition and cooperation pattern has entered a period of deep reconstruction. Significant achievements have been made in the development of key areas, with digital infrastructure upgrading towards high-speed ubiquitous, intelligent and green technologies, accelerated intergenerational evolution of mobile communication technology, deepening commercialization of 5G, large-scale deployment of 5G-A, and accelerated research and development of 6G technology.
