Recently, researchers from a research institute of the Academy of Military Sciences carried newly developed field food and conducted multiple rounds of on-site experiments and tasting evaluations in extreme environments in the cold regions of Northeast China and the snowy plateau at an altitude of over 4700 meters, achieving phased results. This series of experiments effectively verifies the effectiveness of newly developed field food support in extreme environments such as low temperature and oxygen, providing more efficient food support solutions for the military to carry out diversified combat tasks, and further enhancing our military's ability to sustain field operations and survival support. In recent years, relevant departments of the Logistics Support Department of the Central Military Commission have closely adhered to the requirements of battlefield food support, and organized military food experts to explore new models of fast food support for field operations in response to the accelerated pace of modern warfare, flexible and variable troop movements, and increasing constraints on battlefield food support. They focus on the two key areas of field operations and nutrition, and have successively developed new types of field food such as high-energy food, standard energy food, low-fat light food, and special needs food, comprehensively improving the quality of field food supply. The 6 ready to eat meals and 3 self heating meals that participated in the trial showed good environmental adaptability: after being placed in a field environment at -42 ℃ for 12 hours, the drop test showed no obvious cracking or damage to each layer of packaging, and the food quality remained good. In the high-altitude region at an altitude of over 4700 meters, facing harsh conditions with only half the oxygen content of plain areas, researchers have successfully explored a new heating mode activated by self heating food "snow+water". This mode utilizes high-altitude snow to replace most liquid water and activate self heating food, which not only saves drinking water resources for officers and soldiers during field operations, but also effectively reduces the burden on individual soldiers and improves support efficiency. According to researchers, extremely low temperature environments below -40 ℃ pose challenges to people, food, and equipment: packaging materials are prone to brittleness and cracking in extreme cold, making it difficult to ensure food safety; The food itself freezes and hardens, resulting in a decrease in edibility; Ensuring hot food in outdoor conditions is more difficult. The research team strives to achieve breakthroughs in food anti freezing performance, packaging anti brittleness ability, and extremely low temperature efficient heating through a series of innovative technologies. Next, the research team will continue to optimize product formulas, improve comprehensive performance, accelerate the formation of a series of products and standardized supply system, and provide support for enhancing our military's field food support capabilities.
