The construction of the new airport in Guangzhou started on the 25th, and a new modern international aviation hub in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area has moved from blueprint to reality, which will add momentum and support to the construction of the world-class urban agglomeration in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Guangzhou New Airport is located in Gaoming District, Foshan City, at the geographical center of Foshan, Zhaoqing, Jiangmen, and Yunfu, and can directly serve over 20 million people. According to the plan, the new airport in Guangzhou is a domestic civil hub airport, an important component of Guangzhou's international aviation hub, and one of the aviation hubs in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. It also serves as a comprehensive transportation hub in the western part of the Greater Bay Area. The total investment of the Guangzhou New Airport project is 41.808 billion yuan, of which 35.909 billion yuan is for the airport project. It will construct two long-distance parallel runways, a terminal building with a construction area of about 260000 square meters, 94 stands, and corresponding supporting facilities. It is expected to meet the operational needs of an annual passenger throughput of 30 million, a cargo and mail throughput of 500000 tons, and 260000 aircraft takeoffs and landings. It is reported that after the completion of the new airport in Guangzhou, it will differentiate its route layout from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport based on its functional positioning. The coordinated development and complementary functions of the two airports provide important support for Guangzhou to build a world-class international aviation hub. In order to achieve efficient multimodal transportation between aviation, railways, and highways, Guangzhou New Airport will introduce multiple regional trunk rail transit systems such as Guangzhou Zhanjiang High speed Railway, Shenzhen South High speed Railway, Zhuhai Zhaoqing High speed Railway, and Zhaoshunnan Intercity Railway, and synchronously build a "five horizontal and four vertical" expressway network and expressway network in the surrounding areas.
