As people's expectations for livable environments continue to rise, their tolerance for noisy environments is also decreasing. Reducing noise in cities has become an essential part of urban environmental governance that cannot be avoided. In recent years, China has been promoting the prevention and control of noise pollution, and the results have been significant. Starting from 2023, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will promote the construction of peaceful residential areas, with a focus on "eliminating noise and sleeping peacefully". As of now, more than 3200 peaceful residential areas have been built nationwide. Quietly, tranquil communities have blossomed in many cities across the country. Of course, noise control does not mean to make all production and life "silent". Economic development requires indispensable project construction; The masses want leisure, and their entertainment needs should also be met. To balance the needs of all parties, we can only do it step by step. Square dancing uses directional sound system, only allowing the 'dance area to have sound'; The community formulates management conventions and reaches a 'peaceful consensus'; Effectively implementing the system and establishing a code of conduct... More patient coordination and a set of effective mechanisms are important reasons for the effectiveness of noise control. Further strengthening the prevention and control of noise pollution should be based on treatment, promoting the implementation of industrial noise discharge permits and management of key polluting units, fulfilling the responsibility of controlling construction noise, increasing the prevention and control of transportation noise pollution, and strictly managing noise in business premises. We should focus on prevention, strictly manage the source of noise, and promote the research, development, and engineering application of new technologies, equipment, and materials for environmental noise control such as noise reducing asphalt and high-speed sound barriers. Only by combining prevention and control can we achieve twice the result with half the effort.
