Li Jiachao: Over 270000 talents come to Hong Kong to reshape various industries through artificial intelligence, digital innovation, etc

2026-03-19

The International Talent Forum, a key event of the Global Talent Summit Week organized by the Hong Kong Talent Services Office, was unveiled at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 18th. About 7000 guests from around the world gathered in Hong Kong to explore the talent development model under the wave of artificial intelligence. Participants generally believe that the traditional definition of talent based on professional knowledge and experience is being overturned, and "soft power" such as learning ability, decision-making ability, and curiosity are becoming new talent skills. In his speech, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam stated that as of February 2026, over 410000 applications have been approved for various talent entry programs in Hong Kong, with more than 270000 people coming to Hong Kong, reflecting the global vote of confidence in Hong Kong. Artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and technological change are reshaping various industries. In the future, competitiveness will no longer solely depend on capital or tangible infrastructure, but more importantly, on the creativity and adaptability of talent. Christopher Pissarides, a 2010 Nobel laureate in economics and professor at the London School of Economics, stated in his keynote speech that technological disruption of work is not a new phenomenon, but the characteristic of the wave of artificial intelligence is the transformation of job content, not the replacement of positions. Therefore, what the future workplace needs is data interpretation ability - the ability to understand the information conveyed by AI and make communication and decisions. In the group discussion session, several industry representatives expressed that in the era of AI, the definition of talent has shifted from "possessing professional knowledge and experience" to "having adaptability, curiosity, and innovation ability". Enterprises place more emphasis on whether a person is willing to learn, able to ask questions they have never seen before, has the ability to collaborate and communicate across fields, and can make good use of AI tools to achieve innovative ideas.
