At a press conference held by the National Health Commission on the 18th, Yu Wenzhou, chief physician of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, stated that in mid to late February of this year, all provinces have carried out vaccine procurement work and have gradually launched free vaccination. At present, all routine vaccination units have HPV vaccine supply. 13-year-old girls can receive the HPV vaccine at nearby community health service centers, township health centers, or temporary vaccination points of schools according to the arrangements of the disease control department and schools. A large amount of research data shows that the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine can effectively prevent at least 70% of cervical cancer. Yu Wenzhou introduced that HPV is mainly transmitted through sexual activity, and adolescent women who receive the HPV vaccine before starting sexual activity can maximize the preventive effect of the vaccine on HPV infection. In 2025, China will include the HPV vaccine in the national immunization plan, and provide free HPV vaccination services for 13-year-old girls in the national immunization plan as part of the 2026 health system's service to the people project. Yu Wenzhou reminds that most HPV infections in women are transient infections and the body cannot develop immunity to the HPV virus. Even if infected with a certain type of HPV, vaccination can still provide preventive protection against uninfected types of HPV. Therefore, married women under the age of 45 also need to receive the HPV vaccine to protect their health. Regarding the viewpoint that cervical cancer screening is not necessary after receiving the HPV vaccine, Yu Wenzhou emphasized that even if vaccinated, regular cervical cancer screening is still necessary. The current HPV vaccine cannot cover all HPV types, cannot eliminate existing infections, cannot prevent the progression of existing lesions, and there are still a small number of cervical cancers that are not related to HPV infection. The age range of screening objects for cervical cancer and breast cancer in China is 35 to 64 years old. Women of the right age should pay attention to their own health and do a good job in prevention and screening. ”(New Society)
