March 16th is the 130th anniversary of the birth of art educator Liu Haisu. On March 17th, the "Standing at the Foundation of Modern Art Education in China - Liu Haisu Art Education Thought and Literature Exhibition" opened at Nanjing Academy of Arts, and the first volume of "Liu Haisu's Complete Works" was first released at the exhibition opening ceremony. The publication of the first volume of "The Complete Works of Liu Haisu" aims to make Mr. Liu Haisu's intellectual heritage the most vivid teaching material, shining into the present and inspiring the future, "said Yu Feng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing Academy of Arts. Xu Fushan, Vice President of the China Academy of Art, introduced that this exhibition showcases how Liu Haisu promoted Chinese modern art from scratch and from weakness to strength through multiple thematic clues, precious historical documents, manuscript letters, image materials, and representative art works. We hope that this is not only a heartfelt tribute to the ancestors, but also a vivid art education open class for the whole society, especially for the younger generation, "said Xu Fushan. After visiting the exhibition, Liu Chan, the daughter of Liu Haisu, said, "The yellowed letters, mottled lesson plans, and early paintings in the literature exhibition carry the memories of my father, embody his lifelong pursuit of artistic education ideals, and also carry the memories of an era. Seeing the meticulous presentation of the literature exhibition, I believe that my father's artistic education ideas are being inherited, promoted, and developed by generations." Liu Haisu founded the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts in 1912, pioneering modern art education in China. Zhu Di, member of the Party Group, Vice Chairman, and Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, stated that Liu Haisu proposed "making everyone's life artistic" as early as a hundred years ago, striving to break down the barriers of aesthetic class through modern aesthetic education. His vision is forming a cross temporal resonance with the flourishing development of "new mass literature and art" today. In the face of the profound reshaping of visual experience and artistic ecology by digitization and artificial intelligence, it is even more important to inherit Liu Haisu's spirit of breaking through traditional barriers and returning art education to its innovative essence. This exhibition is jointly organized by Nanjing Academy of Arts and China Academy of Art.
