The 15th batch of Chinese medical teams providing aid to Papua New Guinea recently went deep into the inland provinces of Western Highlands and Nga in Papua New Guinea to carry out large-scale free medical consultations. A medical team composed of professional backbone personnel from thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, urology, and other fields, carrying medical equipment and drugs, crossed rugged mountain roads and successively arrived at Mount Hagen Hospital in the Western Highlands Province and Enga Provincial Hospital, delivering health services to the grassroots in the most needed mountainous areas. The Western Highlands Province and Nga Province are located in the hinterland of the Central Mountain Range in Papua New Guinea, surrounded by mountains and with inconvenient transportation, making them one of the areas with the most scarce medical resources in the region. The first stop of the medical team arrived at Mount Hagen Hospital in Western Highlands Province. As a provincial-level medical institution, the hospital undertakes the diagnosis and treatment tasks for a large number of patients in the surrounding areas, but has long faced difficulties such as talent shortage and outdated equipment. Despite the fatigue of the journey, the medical team experts quickly resumed their work and conducted joint ward rounds with local doctors to provide detailed consultations for difficult and critically ill patients. Enka Provincial Hospital is a key livelihood project in Papua New Guinea supported by the Chinese government through preferential loans. At the outpatient clinic of Enja Provincial Hospital, local residents who rushed over upon hearing the news formed a long queue. The medical team quickly put into work, overcoming language barriers and collaborating with local medical staff to carefully inquire about medical history, conduct thorough physical examinations, provide professional diagnosis and treatment advice, and screen multiple cases that require surgical intervention, establishing a green channel for them to be referred to the Port Moresby General Hospital. Grant Madu, CEO of Nga Provincial Hospital, said, "The Chinese medical team brings not only advanced technology, but also development concepts and confidence. We look forward to establishing a long-term and stable cooperative relationship with the Chinese medical team." According to statistics, this round of free clinics in two provincial hospitals served more than 200 local residents and received high praise from patients. The medical team also visited the project headquarters of China Harbour Engineering Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Construction International Construction Co., Ltd. to provide medical services to their employees.
