One Hundred and One "Running" Culture: Let every student grow towards the sun and pursue their dreams while running

Sports is a traditional strength of Beijing 101 High School. After our school moved into the Yuanmingyuan campus, the vast 300 acre campus provided a natural fertile ground for running, allowing historical traditions to take root in real-life scenarios. The strong "running" culture has already permeated campus daily life. In 101 Middle School, children are active on the vibrant sports field during break time. I often watch children running towards the playground in the hallway of the teaching building, with short distance relay, skipping rope, badminton, table tennis... Laughter and joy filling the campus. Many students who have previously been physically weak, overweight, or not fond of exercise have joined the "Lingyun Morning Wing Run Team" with the encouragement of their teachers and insist on daily morning runs. At the end of the semester, not only did their physical fitness significantly improve, but their faces also gained sunshine and confidence. Teachers also take the initiative to walk together, running side by side and exercising together, becoming a beautiful scenery on campus. We strive to make full use of fragmented time, with physical education classes as the core and big breaks, after-school services, and sunshine runs as carriers, to ensure that each student exercises for no less than two hours every day. Our school continues to improve the physical education curriculum system, making the classroom more warm and effective. In teaching, we adhere to hierarchical classification, which includes basic training such as running, jumping, and shooting, as well as distinctive sports projects, so that every child can find their passion. In junior high school, we implement the "2+2+1" innovative model: 2 basic classes per week, 2 specialized ball courses, and 1 characteristic expansion class, aiming to help children solidify their foundation and cultivate their expertise. In high school, we fully implement "modular" electives, covering basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, badminton, tennis, aerobics and other projects, fully meeting the personalized development needs of children. In terms of expanding courses, we offer school-based elective courses such as roller skating, rock climbing, football, volleyball, etc., and link them with the afternoon "Sunshine Sports" activity to form a dual track model of "courses+activities", expanding the depth and breadth of physical exercise. In response to the issue of adolescent obesity, we specifically offer physical fitness improvement courses that combine basic running and jumping with strength training, supplemented by psychological guidance. We have also made an agreement with children that losing 5 kilograms per semester will earn them an "excellent" overall sports rating. The design of this course not only helps students lose weight and gain energy, regain confidence, but also deeply instills the educational philosophy of "second place in grades, first place in physical fitness". What makes us most proud is our personalized sports events and sports activities. Our school has established a fully covered competition system, including the "Class Super League", grade challenge competitions, spring and autumn sports games, winter long-distance running competitions, etc., which have been continuously held, basically achieving the goal of everyone having projects, classes having teams, and monthly competitions. A series of competitions such as football league, basketball league, volleyball league, badminton tournament, sit up team competition, etc. enrich campus culture and make students full of vitality. The annual micro marathon race for teachers and students is a grand festival on campus. Running is our culture, our heritage, and our lifelong responsibility to children. We will continue to use "running" as a medium to root health in the campus, make exercise a habit, and let every student grow up in the sun and pursue their dreams while running. (New Society)
