Ms. Zhang Zhuoni, a Hong Kong resident, completed her application for cross-border RMB settlement of housing provident fund in about 20 minutes at the Hong Kong and Macau service window of Nansha Management Department of Guangzhou Housing Provident Fund Management Center on the 11th. Immediately, tens of thousands of Hong Kong dollars were deposited into her Hong Kong bank account, and she will use this money to pay for the monthly mortgage of the Hong Kong property. The Nansha District Government introduced that this is the first cross-border RMB settlement service for housing provident fund launched by Guangzhou in the country. Hong Kong and Macao employees in Guangzhou can directly transfer the funds withdrawn from the provident fund to their Hong Kong and Macao bank accounts. This innovative measure not only marks the first cross-border RMB settlement for withdrawal business in the housing provident fund industry, but also signifies the first entry of the government and people's livelihood service field into a new stage of cross-border payment. Relying on the Cross border Payment System of the People's Bank of China, this service enables direct cross-border transfer of funds and seamless service, completely solving the hardship of Guangdong Hong Kong Macao employees traveling back and forth to transfer funds. At the same time, the full reduction of cross-border remittance fees is expected to save each Hong Kong and Macao employee 800 yuan in handling fees per year. Overseas bank accounts can also be freely exchanged, further giving employees greater autonomy in fund management. I joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) in 2021 and started to contribute to the housing provident fund. However, because I had to open a mainland account specifically to connect with the housing provident fund before, I have not applied for withdrawal. I received an email last week and learned that now the housing provident fund can be directly withdrawn to a Hong Kong bank account. I called to make an appointment for processing. ”Zhang Zhuoni likes the proactive notification of new services by the Nansha Management Department of Guangzhou Housing Provident Fund Management Center. Zhang Zhuoni said that the entire process was very smooth, taking only about 20 minutes. From now on, you can apply for housing provident fund directly on your phone every three months, and the provident fund can be directly transferred to Hong Kong, greatly reducing the monthly payment pressure on Hong Kong properties. In addition to the country's first cross-border RMB settlement service for housing provident fund, the Guangzhou Housing Provident Fund Management Center (referred to as the "Guangzhou Center"), the Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee of Guangzhou, Bank of China Guangzhou Branch, and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited also jointly signed the "Guangzhou Nansha Bay Area Provident Fund Connect" Cooperation Framework Agreement in Nansha District in 2025. It is understood that the signing of this agreement marks that Hong Kong residents can receive the service guide at the outlets designated by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., and conveniently enjoy the housing provident fund service in Guangzhou through WeChat official account, effectively solving the worries of Hong Kong residents working and living in Guangzhou. As of now, 9143 Hong Kong and Macao compatriots have deposited housing provident fund in Guangzhou, among which 187 Hong Kong and Macao personnel have used the provident fund to purchase properties in Guangzhou. The implementation of cross-border RMB settlement services for housing provident fund will provide more convenient financial security for more Hong Kong and Macao compatriots to live in peace.
