The three-day 2026 London Book Fair opened on the 10th at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London, attracting nearly a thousand exhibitors and over 30000 professionals from more than 90 countries and regions. The Chinese publishing delegation made a concentrated appearance under the theme of "Reading China", bringing over 4000 types of books and organizing more than 40 events around book exhibitions, new book releases, author discussions, copyright cooperation, and more. The China Joint Exhibition booth at the London Book Fair features five themed exhibition areas, including Chinese themed books and Chinese boutique books. It showcases Chinese themed publishing, literary creation, and traditional culture, as well as new forms of content such as digital experiences and IP development. The presentation of classic works and research achievements such as "Yongle Encyclopedia" and "Tsinghua University's Collection of Warring States Bamboo Slips" in conjunction with VR immersive experience projects reflects the trend of Chinese publishing extending from "displaying books" to "displaying content ecology" on the international stage. On the first day of the book fair, a themed seminar on "China and the World in the New Era" and a new book launch event were held, releasing multilingual books such as the English version of "Analyzing China under Global Development Initiatives from an Economic Perspective"; In the afternoon of the same day, the first launch of the new English versions of China Development Report 2025 and Global Development Report 2025 was held, focusing on the practice of Chinese path to modernization and the important issues facing China's development. Zhang Hong, Deputy General Manager of China Publishing Group Co., Ltd., stated at the "New Era China and the World" themed seminar and book launch event that through multilingual publishing and global synchronous distribution, readers from all over the world can understand the real situation in China, understand the development opportunities China brings to the world, and feel the sincerity of China and the world advancing hand in hand. Marcelino Elosuva, founder of Reed Publishing in Spain, stated that publishing is not just a commercial activity, but should also have cultural significance. The new book released on the same day further enriches the narrative and expression of China's development with diverse perspectives and an international author lineup. At the book fair, several figures from the British publishing and translation industries talked about the increasing interest in Chinese literature and culture overseas in recent years. Young British translator Hargreaves said that the most important aspect of literary translation is the connection between people, and true cultural experience and cross-cultural understanding will not be easily replaced by machines. Lei Yi, another publishing industry practitioner who has been traveling between China and the UK for a long time and has lived in China for more than ten years, said that nowadays, China's publishing cooperation with other countries is increasingly showing a two-way exchange trend. Compared to the relatively one-way flow of information and copyright in the past, today's interaction emphasizes mutual understanding, joint participation, and sustained cooperation. During the book fair, multiple events were held, including the "Archaeology and Fairy Tales - Cultural and Creative Works Seminar", "Mai Family Works Translation Exhibition", and "Sino British Publishing Creative Industry Exchange Activity". Several figures in the UK publishing and translation industries have stated that in recent years, there has been a continuous increase in interest in Chinese literature and culture overseas, and Sino foreign publishing cooperation is constantly showing a more diverse and two-way exchange trend.
