This year marks the 2240 year of Guangzhou's founding and the 1800 year of its name. This temple fair has become an open stage for the integration of Guangfu culture. Innovative transformations can be seen in literary and artistic performances, the concentration of intangible cultural heritage in the city can touch the persistence of craftsmanship, the continuation of homesickness can be felt in streets and ancestral halls, the inheritance of cultural heritage can be witnessed in bookish campuses, and the vitality of consumption can be experienced in fireworks, delicious food, and trendy commercial districts. The gathering of intangible cultural heritage has always been the hallmark of Guangfu Temple Fair. This year, the intangible cultural heritage parade of Yangji Village in Meihua Village Street was held as scheduled, featuring performances such as the Eight Sounds Singing Together, Dragon and Lion Offering Auspiciousness, God of Wealth Sending Blessings, and Tai Chi Charm. The event also attracted a group of about 70 foreign visitors, including "Guangzhou New Year Flower City Flower Viewing -2026 International Tourism Celebrity Flower City Happiness Tour", who chose Yangji as their first stop in Guangzhou. Foreign individuals joining the intangible cultural heritage parade team form a distinctive formation, showcasing the scene of cross-border cultural exchange in Guangfu. This year's Guangfu Temple Fair is interconnected across the entire area, with the main venue in the cultural core area of Beijing Road creating an intangible cultural heritage market that gathers dozens of skills such as Guangxiu, Guangzhong, and Tongcao painting; In the northern section of Beijing Road, traditional techniques such as sugar blowing and crochet are combined with the aesthetics of the new generation to create a youth cultural gathering place that combines anime, social, and consumer functions; Beijing Road South Section, with "intangible cultural heritage+handicrafts+public welfare" as its core, gathers characteristic booths such as shadow puppetry, fragrant cloud gauze, and handmade embroidery, and collaborates with public welfare organizations to carry out art healing activities. The "Alley Temple Fair" is being held simultaneously in multiple streets of Yuexiu District, where traditional culture is integrated into daily life through various activities such as riddle guessing, intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, and charity sales. The ancestral halls of Yaotai Village and Wangshengtang Village in Wenshui Street, Yuexiu District, brought together villagers from all over the country for a family banquet. The two villages held a hundred banquets, and the villagers discussed their hometown feelings. Traditional dishes such as the "Yaotai Three Treasures" were prepared by the villagers themselves, restoring the flavor of Guangfu family banquets and consolidating family ties and cultural identity. During the temple fair, which coincides with the start of school, students participate in the activities and carry out characteristic campus temple fair activities to promote Guangfu culture into the campus and enable students to innovate and grow through inheritance. Zhang Rong, the director of the Cultural Center of Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, introduced that the Guangfu Temple Fair has been going through 16 years and presents the characteristics of diversified event planning. This year's temple fair has achieved the integration of AI technology, robots, and folk performances. In the future, temple fairs will continue to deepen the linkage between tradition and technology, allowing ancient folk customs to shine with new opportunities. (New Society)
