The Madagascar China Film Festival will open on the 8th of 2026 in the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo. About 100 guests from all walks of life from both countries attended the opening ceremony and watched the opening movie 'The King of the Sky'. Miyari Rasulufuarijona, Secretary General of the Ministry of Information and Culture of Madagascar, stated that 2026 is the "Year of Cultural Exchange between China and Africa", and the film festival will use the power of images and stories to bring the hearts and minds of the two peoples closer, allowing the people of Madagascar to appreciate Chinese culture. In his speech, Chinese Ambassador to Madagascar Ji Ping stated that in the current geopolitical conflict that is tearing apart the world, the continuous deepening of cultural exchanges between China and Africa has significance beyond the bilateral scope. I hope to take this film festival as an opportunity to showcase the cultures of China and Malaysia on the world stage, shining even brighter. Zhang Xuxia, Deputy Director of the China Film Archive, said in a video speech that she believes filmmakers from China and Malaysia can gain new inspiration through mutual learning and appreciation, allowing more works to be seen, understood, and appreciated by audiences from both countries. It is reported that this film festival is jointly hosted by the National Film Administration of China, the Embassy of China in Madagascar, and the Ministry of Information and Culture of Madagascar, and organized by the China Film Archive. It will last until the 15th. Chinese films such as "Beautiful Life," "Chinese Captain," "Hello, Li Huanying," and "In an Octagonal Cage" will be screened in cinemas in Madagascar. (New Society)
