Protecting teenagers' sense of reality is a good way to avoid screen censorship
2026-03-09
During the National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the issues of screen dependence and internet addiction among minors have become a hot topic of discussion among delegates and committee members. Faced with small screens emitting blue light, many parents have fallen into confusion and helplessness. Relying solely on time control and physical isolation measures such as limiting the duration, confiscating equipment, and forcing screen locks often only achieves short-term results, and may even lead to parent-child conflicts and rebellious psychology. Fundamentally, we focus more on what children cannot do, but neglect what children can still do after turning off the screen. The insufficient public space, poor after-school connection, and lack of activity guidance are important reasons for the increasing dependence on screens in reality. The foundation of helping teenagers get rid of screen dependence lies in improving public space construction and providing them with a place to go. In the fast-paced urbanization process, public activity spaces exclusively for minors are easily marginalized, and there is still a shortage of free or low-cost sports venues, community activity centers, science popularization experience centers, etc. that are suitable for them to run, sweat, and release their nature. Therefore, governments at all levels and relevant departments should effectively integrate the concept of child friendliness into the planning and construction of public spaces, ensuring that young people have a place to go. One is to increase investment and build micro sports spaces such as community sports parks, street corner stadiums, and trails, creating a "15 minute vibrant life circle" for young people; The second is to activate existing resources, actively promote schools with conditions to open sports venues, libraries and other facilities to young people in surrounding communities on weekends and holidays, and encourage relevant units and research institutes to open public welfare science popularization education bases; The third is to fill the gaps in urban and rural areas and steadily achieve full coverage and balanced supply of public spaces for young people. To help teenagers get rid of screen dependence, we need to improve the supply of public services and provide them with something to do. Having something to do not only refers to participating in activities, but also to these activities being able to fit the physical and mental development laws of young people, meet their spiritual and cultural needs, stimulate scientific interests, and enhance their sense of gain and happiness. In reality, although some communities have activity venues, they are often idle due to a lack of professional organizations and high-quality activity supply, making it difficult to meet the actual needs of young people. Therefore, while expanding public spaces, it is also necessary to improve operational mechanisms, perfect activity organization and accompanying guidance, so that the space can truly be used and come to life. Schools should continue to optimize and enrich after-school service content, deeply integrate physical education, aesthetic education, labor education, and mental health education, establish diversified interest clubs, and ensure a smooth transition from classroom to after-school. Communities should actively introduce professional social organizations, social work forces, and volunteer teams to organize regular sports activities, scientific education activities, intangible cultural heritage experiences, etc. on weekends and during winter and summer vacations. When real life becomes richer, more interesting, and worth looking forward to, and when minors gain real experiences and a sense of achievement through teamwork and sweat, the appeal of electronic screens to them will naturally gradually weaken. Whether there is a place to go or something to do, the ultimate destination lies in the genuine connection between people. The collaborative education mechanism between families, schools, and communities plays an important role in addressing the social and emotional deficiencies of minors. Parents should first lead by example, not be a "low head tribe", and provide high-quality companionship and parent-child interaction for their children. Schools should adhere to the main battlefield of education, deeply promote the construction of healthy schools, and implement relevant requirements such as daily comprehensive sports activities of no less than 2 hours for primary and secondary school students. At the social level, multiple measures should be taken to actively create a good atmosphere of caring for minors, increase support, and strengthen the ideological and moral construction of minors. By deepening the collaboration between families, schools, and communities, integrating physical exercise, reading practice, labor experience, and face-to-face communication into public services, and replacing online addiction with genuine offline companionship, the collaborative education mechanism can truly be implemented and integrated into daily life.
