New technology realizes collaborative disposal and recovery of solid waste from copper lead zinc smelting

Recently, it was learned from Kunming Metallurgical Research Institute that the project "Key Technologies and Applications for Collaborative Disposal and Resource Recycling of Copper Lead Zinc Typical Solid Waste" led by the institute has won the first prize of the 2025 Environmental Technology Progress Award of the China Environmental Protection Industry Association. This achievement not only plays a demonstrative and leading role in the collaborative disposal and resource utilization of solid waste in non-ferrous metallurgy, but also marks an important technological breakthrough in promoting the green development and resource recycling of the copper lead zinc industry in China. The copper lead zinc smelting industry has long faced common challenges such as high energy consumption, low comprehensive resource utilization, and high environmental pressure. To this end, Kunming Metallurgical Research Institute takes the lead and collaborates with Hulunbuir Chihong Mining Co., Ltd., Yimen Copper Industry Co., Ltd., Yunnan Chihong International Germanium Industry Co., Ltd., and Kunming University of Science and Technology to carry out technological research and innovation based on the technical concept of "source reduction process regulation end use", relying on the advantages of the complete copper lead zinc industry chain. The research team has successfully developed a series of core new technologies, including enhanced smelting technology for the synergistic mixing of copper containing slag materials and primary concentrates, key technology for the synergistic disposal of zinc containing slag materials in lead smelting, efficient separation and high-value utilization of germanium, copper and sulfur in copper lead zinc smelting slag, etc. A new model for the synergistic disposal of copper lead zinc smelting solid waste has been established, creating a characteristic "metallurgical symbiosis network", achieving efficient synergistic disposal and resource recycling of copper lead zinc smelting slag, and providing practical and feasible technical solutions for the green transformation of the industry. It is reported that this award is an important achievement of Kunming Metallurgical Research Institute in anchoring the development direction of "strong technology" and continuously tackling technical problems. The innovative technological achievements of this project also provide strong technical support for the recently issued Action Plan for Comprehensive Management of Solid Waste by the State Council. In the future, the institute will continue to focus on the recycling and reuse of metallurgical solid waste resources in the non-ferrous metal industry, continuously deepen technology research and development and achievement transformation, and participate in the construction of "Green and Low Carbon New Aluminum" with more high-quality technological achievements.
