Today is the 13th World Wildlife Day. According to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, in recent years, China has coordinated the promotion of in-situ and ex situ conservation, fully implemented wildlife conservation projects, continuously improved the construction of protection policies, regulations, and monitoring systems, and made positive progress in wildlife conservation work. At present, the quality of habitats (original habitats) for wild animals and plants in China has significantly improved, with a protection rate of over 80% for nationally protected terrestrial wildlife and wild plant species. The overall population of wild animals and plants is showing a stable growth trend. China continues to improve its laws and regulations on the protection of wildlife and plants, revise the Wildlife Protection Law, and adjust and release the list of nationally protected wildlife, wild plants, and terrestrial wildlife with important ecological, scientific, and social value. At the same time, a high-quality on-site protection system with national parks as the main body will be constructed, and the first five national parks established will cover nearly 30% of the key protected wildlife species in the land area. China has extensively carried out international cooperation in the protection of wildlife and plants, conscientiously implemented the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and the Convention on Biological Diversity, continuously strengthened cooperation with Asian countries such as elephants, tigers, and snow leopards, and participated in the East Asia Australasia Bird Migratory Area Partnership Agreement. During the 15th Five Year Plan period, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration will focus on planning and implementing a series of projects for the protection of wildlife and plants in key areas, organizing major protection activities and special actions, improving regulatory systems and working mechanisms, and continuously strengthening science popularization and publicity on wildlife and plant protection, in order to promote the high-quality protection of wildlife and plants.
