Recently, Silian Village in Jinde Town, Liujiang District, Liuzhou City, Guangxi Province, was filled with a festive atmosphere. Villagers gathered together to make traditional lanterns and welcome the arrival of the Hakka "Lantern Festival". Lantern making is not only an important part of festival preparation, but also a vivid carrier for consolidating local sentiments and inheriting intangible cultural heritage. At the production site, materials such as bamboo strips, colored paper, and silk threads are neatly arranged and readily available. The villagers are focused on meticulously crafting each lantern, following traditional procedures from cutting strips, tying frames, pasting paper, to string decorations. The lantern is made of bamboo as the bone and paper as the clothing, with distinct layers inside and outside the lantern body and bright colors. The lantern skirt is elegant and gorgeous, with a unique Hakka style. When making lanterns, it is important to tie the bamboo frame firmly, paste the paper surface flat, and cut the patterns finely. Hakka lanterns have been passed down for a hundred years, and every process is an old craft. Each lantern carries a blessing. ”Zeng Dexiang, a representative inheritor of Liujiang Hakka lantern making techniques, introduced that the local traditional lantern is about 1.8 meters high and 0.9 meters wide, with 24 paper flowers hanging on the outside, corresponding to the 24 solar terms. It integrates agricultural culture and auspicious meanings, expressing the beautiful wishes of adding children, blessings, and peace every year. In Hakka dialect, the homophone for "lamp" is "ding", which means adding a child to wealth and promoting family prosperity. Every year, Silian Village holds a series of activities such as welcoming lanterns, lighting lanterns, lion dances, and ancestor worship to attract people to come and experience. Stick a lamp in your hand and pray for a whole year. With the completion of exquisite lanterns one after another, carrying the beautiful wish of family reunion, the local New Year flavor becomes more mellow. This handmade craftsmanship not only illuminates the path of inheriting local culture, but also brings glory to Hakka intangible cultural heritage in the new era, adding rich folk customs to the local Spring Festival.
