The Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on the 26th that in order to further facilitate visitors to Hong Kong and improve customs clearance efficiency, it will relax the eligibility of frequent visitors to register for the use of self-service immigration inspection (e-Channel) services from the 27th, and simplify the registration process for using e-Channel services. Under the new arrangement, frequent visitors to Hong Kong, including those holding valid travel documents and multiple entry tourist visas, only need to visit Hong Kong twice or more through the Hong Kong International Airport in the past 24 months and meet the relevant conditions to register and use the e-Channel service for free. After successful registration, passengers can use e-Channel self-service to handle immigration inspection procedures at various entry and exit control points in Hong Kong, enjoying a more convenient customs clearance experience. In addition, the procedures for registering and using e-Channel services have also been simplified. Passengers who are eligible and hold valid electronic travel documents can complete the registration process at the designated e-Channel registration office by presenting the valid travel document used upon entry, taking a photo, and signing a consent form, without the need to collect fingerprints. The registration process for passengers holding non electronic travel documents to use e-Channel services remains unchanged. (New Society)
