The reporter learned from China General Nuclear Power Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CGN) that recently, the first "Hualong One" nuclear power unit in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area - CGN Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Unit 1- was successfully connected to the grid and generated its first kilowatt hour, injecting green power into the promotion of the "dual carbon" goal and energy structure optimization. It is reported that the Taipingling Nuclear Power Project is the first "Hualong One" independent third-generation nuclear power project in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, with a planned construction of six "Hualong One" nuclear power units and a total investment scale of over 120 billion yuan. After the successful grid connection of Unit 1, it will enter the stage of on load trial operation. Subsequently, power improvement and various performance tests will be steadily carried out, and it is planned to officially enter commercial operation in the first half of 2026. Hualong One "is a third-generation pressurized water reactor nuclear power innovation achievement with complete independent intellectual property rights developed and designed in China. At present, "Hualong One" has become the third-generation nuclear power technology with the largest number of operating and under construction units in the world, and is the main reactor type in current nuclear power construction, marking China's nuclear power technology and comprehensive competitiveness among the world's top ranks. The grid connected power generation of Unit 1 of Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant is not only an important achievement in the independent development of nuclear power in China, but also fills the gap in the independent operation of third-generation nuclear power in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. According to calculations, Unit 1 can provide approximately 8.1 billion kilowatt hours of clean energy electricity to the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area annually after its operation, effectively reducing standard coal consumption by approximately 2.45 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 7.48 million tons. This will provide strong support for clean energy supply and energy structure optimization in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. (New Society)
