The number of civilian in orbit remote sensing satellites in China ranks second in the world

2026-02-25

The reporter recently learned from the China Geographic Information Industry Association that by 2025, China will launch more than 120 remote sensing satellites and over 640 civilian in orbit remote sensing satellites, continuing to rank second in the world. These satellites cover optical, hyperspectral, infrared, and microwave types, and have achieved all-weather and all day observation of the Earth. Commercial remote sensing satellites continue to develop rapidly. Remote sensing satellites have made significant progress in technological breakthroughs, constellation networking, and application expansion. In 2025, China's highest spatial resolution commercial remote sensing satellites, including 4D Gaojing-1 03 and 04, the first commercial SAR satellite AIRSAT-05/Haishao-2 with full polarization operational observation capabilities, the first geological industry hyperspectral remote sensing small satellite "Geo-1", and the first power industry remote sensing satellite "Electric Power Engineering", will be successfully launched.
