Recently, the 2024 national science popularization statistics data was released. Data shows that China's science popularization personnel team continues to grow, science popularization funds steadily increase, science popularization venue layout is continuously optimized, online and offline communication is coordinated, and characteristic activities benefit a wider audience, demonstrating the great achievements of high-quality development of science popularization in China and further consolidating the mass foundation for building a strong science and technology country, which is inspiring. According to statistics, the total amount of funds raised for science popularization work in China in 2024 is 22.22 billion yuan, with government departments at all levels accounting for 77.06% of the total. The per capita special funds for science popularization are 5.60 yuan, which is a significant increase compared to the "half stick money" target proposed 10 years ago (where the financial investment in science popularization at the provincial, municipal, and county levels reaches 1 yuan per capita). From the perspective of funding structure, science popularization activities, venue infrastructure, and exhibit facilities are the three main expenditure directions. Science popularization work is shifting from "whether there is" to "whether it is good or not", with more emphasis on activity quality, venue functions, and exhibit effects. All sectors of society continue to strengthen the construction of science popularization resources, promote joint construction and sharing, enhance the supply capacity of science popularization services, and provide strong support for the high-quality development of science popularization. The construction of the modern science and technology museum system continues to advance, and the number of various venues and science popularization activity venues continues to grow and extend to the grassroots level in urban and rural areas. Community and rural facilities have been strengthened, and the degree of free opening continues to increase. The accessibility and affordability of science popularization services continue to improve, allowing more people to participate in science popularization activities nearby. Thousands of mobile science museum stations and science popularization vehicles have made science popularization services "mobile" and connected the "last mile" of science popularization services. The digital, networked and intelligent construction of science popularization has been vigorously promoted. The omnimedia communication matrix has been gradually constructed. There are 10200 popular science WeChat official account, 1.181 billion followers, 511000 online popular science videos, and 24.971 billion broadcasts. The brand influence of "Science Popularization China" continues to expand, making scientific knowledge accessible and ubiquitous. The integration and collaboration of traditional and new media, the coordinated efforts of online and offline science popularization, and the profound changes in science popularization content and dissemination methods are bringing new vitality and vigor to science popularization work, and also opening up new paths for the innovative development of science popularization work. In 2025, the first National Science Popularization Month was successfully held, organizing over 500000 diverse forms of science popularization activities and attracting 190 million on-site participants. The influence of mass science popularization activities continues to expand, effectively promoting the general improvement of scientific literacy among the people and planting a strong social soil for innovation driven development. Various brand activities continue to be created, and technology workers go deep into the grassroots to serve the masses, spreading the seeds of science to every corner of society. These activities have become important tools and shining business cards for science popularization work, as well as important bridges connecting technology workers with the public. The popularization of science and technological innovation are like the wings of a bird and the wheels of a car, equally important. As the main body of scientific and technological innovation, research institutions have the responsibility and obligation to regard science popularization as an important part of fulfilling social responsibilities, vigorously promote the popularization of scientific and technological resources, increase the openness of qualified scientific and technological infrastructure and innovation bases to the public, encourage scientific and technological personnel to carry out scientific and technological volunteer services, and enable the public to approach and understand science. At the same time, we will continue to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation in science popularization, tell the story of China's scientific and technological innovation well, guide the international community to deeply understand the achievements of scientific and technological innovation in the new era, and inject new vitality into science popularization work. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has clearly included the basic formation of the integrated development pattern of education, science and technology talents as the main goal of economic and social development during the 15th Five Year Plan period and made strategic arrangements. From a deeper perspective, science popularization is a fundamental project to enhance the scientific literacy of the entire population and build an innovative country. It is located at the intersection of education, technology, and talent, connecting school education with lifelong learning, shaping scientific interests and methods; It also connects social cognition and public support for technological innovation, enhancing the public's understanding and trust in cutting-edge technology; Connecting the soil and channels for talent growth, continuously empowering the cultivation of technological reserve forces and the improvement of industrial skills. In this sense, doing a good job in science popularization is essentially "investing in people", which means making long-term investments in cultivating innovative talents, enhancing scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and strengthening the comprehensive competitiveness of the country. Therefore, in order to promote science popularization work in the future, we must firmly grasp the core of "investing in people". To do a good job in science popularization, firstly, we should establish a "big science popularization" work pattern with the participation of the whole people. We will comprehensively promote science popularization in order to enhance the scientific and cultural literacy of the entire population, consolidate the mass foundation of new productivity, and cultivate the soil for future industrial society. We will deeply implement the popularization of science and technology, strengthen action coordination and social mobilization, promote the collaborative participation of party and government departments, mass organizations, research institutes, universities, enterprises, media, and grassroots communities, and form a socialized "great science popularization" force. Secondly, a differentiated and precise science popularization service system should be established. Focusing on enhancing the scientific decision-making ability of party and government leaders; Focusing on building a cutting-edge foundational knowledge framework for technological reserve forces; Targeting teenagers, focus on stimulating their interest in science; Targeting the general public, we will focus on enhancing the accessibility and accessibility of science popularization resources.
