The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences (abbreviated as "HKUST") held its 10th anniversary ceremony in Hong Kong on the 22nd. Nearly 200 representatives from academia, politics, business, and collaborating institutions gathered together to review the achievements of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences in promoting scientific research and technological innovation. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, stated in her speech that over the past decade, the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences has played a key role in gathering top scientists from home and abroad, cultivating young scientific research talents, and is an important partner for the SAR government to promote the development of innovation and science. He pointed out that the SAR government is comprehensively promoting the coordinated development of the upstream, midstream, and downstream of the innovation and technology industry chain, covering multiple links such as basic research, scientific research achievement transformation, and commercialization. With the support of the central government, relying on the accelerated construction of the northern metropolitan area and the continuous contributions of institutions such as the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, science and innovation will undoubtedly become the core engine of Hong Kong's prosperous development. The President of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, Lu Yuming, said that the growth process of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences is synchronized with the development of innovation and science in Hong Kong. By promoting international exchanges, participating in policy discussions, promoting science popularization, and inspiring young people to engage in scientific research, the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences has made positive contributions to creating a favorable atmosphere of social support for innovation and science. He believes that Hong Kong is currently in a golden period of innovation and technology development, and hopes that the innovation and technology industry can seize the opportunity to jointly consolidate and enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness in building an international innovation and technology center. The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences was established in 2015 by a group of outstanding local scientists with the aim of promoting the development and progress of science and technology in Hong Kong. To support the growth of young scientific research talents, the Hong Kong Academy of Youth Sciences was established in 2018 and is a branch under the jurisdiction of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences. As of now, the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences and the Hong Kong Academy of Youth Sciences have organized over 660 science related events, with a total participation of over 150000 people.
