The platform should have a conscious opposition to creating opposition

2026-01-23

For a period of time, there has been a strong trend of confrontation and fighting on social media platforms, often with chicken feathers and hostility everywhere. In response, some platforms have upgraded their community conventions, which explicitly state the opposition to creating opposition, including respecting different genders, regions, races, professions, and interests, and not easily using influence to make accusations or make inflammatory statements. It is normal for people to hold different views on certain phenomena and topics, as the saying goes, 'From the horizontal perspective, the mountains form peaks.'. However, nowadays, many of the conflicts and disputes on online platforms are often not normal disagreements, but the result of intentional manipulation and amplification. From a social psychological perspective, opposing and controversial topics naturally bring more attention and traffic. A group of self media accounts have gathered here to start an emotional business: they specifically pick issues such as gender, region, wealth, etc., using extreme cases and even rumors as "angry bait", adding fuel and vinegar to create conflicting narratives, bringing the rhythm to flying, waiting only for onlookers to take the bait. In addition, with the widespread use of generative AI tools, a set of contrasting templates can be created, which can be replicated at low cost and efficiently disseminated. If algorithm recommendations are left unchecked, the result will inevitably be a continuous intensification of opposition, and the hostility will snowball. The escalating war of words and disputes is not just about "the volume of arguments getting louder". Intuitively speaking, tearing apart at the slightest disagreement means that the discussion quickly loses focus and accuracy, not only throwing aside the truth and right and wrong of the event itself, but also easily giving rise to online violence such as human flesh and unboxing, directly challenging public order, good customs, and laws and regulations. Looking deeper, as platforms continue to infiltrate public life, their high-intensity feeding of content and ubiquitous information cocoons are also shaping people's thinking patterns, gradually replacing complex rational cognition with simple judgments that are either black or white. From a broader perspective, the oppositional emotions on online platforms will inevitably spill over into the real world, amplifying people's misunderstandings and anxieties, causing group opposition and division. When hostility replaces understanding, doubt dissolves trust, social relationships inevitably become tense. In recent years, the management department has continuously launched a special campaign to clean up the chaos on the internet. In this regard, the platform is not only a key link, but also responsible for guarding the land. It must be noted that using low-quality content such as creating opposition to gain a foothold, even if it can bring temporary benefits, will ultimately narrow the path. Putting values on algorithms and fixing firewalls for content is not only fulfilling social responsibility, but also for the sustainable development of the platform itself. Nowadays, the user base of several major social platforms can easily reach hundreds of millions, demonstrating an unimaginable social mobilization effect. Because it plays a crucial role, it is even more necessary to stir up the darkness and clarify the situation, so that the screens in front of everyone are no longer so "dazzling". The platform should have such self-awareness. (New Society)
