Global discipline rankings released, with many universities in Hong Kong performing exceptionally well

The latest 2026 World University Subject Rankings released by Times Higher Education in the UK show that many universities in Hong Kong have performed well, with the University of Hong Kong ranking seventh in education degrees. According to the ranking, the University of Hong Kong ranks first in 9 disciplines, including Education, Engineering, Medicine and Health, Law, Social Sciences, Science, Life Sciences, Humanities and Arts, and Psychology. The University of Hong Kong stated that its outstanding performance in the rankings reflects the firm pursuit of academic excellence by Hong Kong Master's students. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology stated that it has three disciplines ranked among the top 50 globally and will continue to pursue academic excellence. The ranking of six disciplines at The Chinese University of Hong Kong has improved compared to last year, with the most significant progress being in arts and humanities. City University of Hong Kong stated that it ranks among the top 100 universities globally in seven disciplines, with law ranking 41st and business and economics rising to 36th. This reflects the continuous progress of City University in multiple academic fields and its internationally recognized strength. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University stated that it has six disciplines ranked among the top 100 globally, including Business and Economics, Engineering, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Arts and Humanities, and Science. Among them, the Business and Economics degree ranks 25th globally and first in Hong Kong, reflecting the university's internationally recognized teaching and research strength in different disciplines. The Times Higher Education World University Subject Rankings in the UK are adjusted based on its World University Rankings methodology, covering 11 major subject areas and using multiple performance indicators in the five categories of teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry as evaluation criteria to comprehensively examine the academic and research performance of global higher education institutions in various disciplines.
