'Little flower buds celebrate the New Year': When academic evaluations encounter traditional culture

2026-01-22

On January 21st, the fun end of term practical activity of subject linkage evaluation for first and second grade primary schools in Beijing was launched. When academic evaluation encounters traditional culture, the lively "New Year's goods collection" enters the bookish campus. Wangfujing Department Store, Dashilan Commercial Street, Niujie Snack Street... a group of characteristic landmarks full of Beijing flavor memories have been moved into the campus. Children shuttle through various themed scenes, use what they have learned in class to complete tasks, exchange for their favorite New Year's goods, and complete academic assessments in immersive New Year's customs experiences. Integrating traditional cultural contexts into final evaluations is another exploration of Beijing primary schools in the context of the "double reduction" policy. Through the design of "gamification, activity-based, and life oriented", the activity allows children to feel the close connection between learning and life, naturally demonstrating their academic literacy in the New Year's Eve experience, and learning to express and cooperate in collective activities.
