Tokyo Ueno Zoo confirmed to Xinhua News Agency that the giant pandas "Xiaoxiao" and "Leilei" currently living in the park will soon return to China. According to a previous report by Kyodo News, giant pandas "Xiaoxiao" and "Leilei" will depart on the 27th and return to China. Xiaoxiao and Leilei were born in Ueno Zoo in 2021 and are the children of the giant pandas Bili and Xiannv, who were returned to China in September 2024. Xiaoxiao and Leilei's sister Xiangxiang returned to China in February 2023. According to the previous agreement between China and Japan, the return deadline for "Xiaoxiao" and "Leilei" is February 2026. Japanese media previously reported that Tokyo has negotiated with China on a specific date and decided to advance the return time by about a month. In June 2025, four giant pandas raised at the Adventure World amusement park in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan returned to China. Xiaoxiao and Leilei from Ueno Zoo have become the only two giant pandas in Japan currently. (New Society)
