A cross-border search for people and assistance

2026-01-15

Recently, when Hu, who was far away in Cameroon, Africa, received a judicial aid fund, he was filled with emotion: "Although I have never met the prosecutor before, they have worked hard for me to solve problems. I will always remember this friendship." From Qingtian in Zhejiang to Cameroon, a judicial aid that crossed thousands of miles of mountains and seas brought the most genuine warmth to Hu, who was wandering in a foreign country. Hu has no fixed occupation and only relies on odd jobs to barely make ends meet. His parents are over seventy years old, weak and sickly, and his married sister also needs his constant assistance due to her disability. Under the heavy pressure of life, Hu, who is nearly forty years old, is still alone, and his marriage has become a concern for the whole family. In October 2023, Hu's marriage finally saw a turning point. After being introduced to a blind date by a middleman, he quickly finalized his marriage with a woman and gathered 150000 yuan in dowry to deliver to her. Just as he was filled with longing for his future life, the woman made excuses to go missing, and the middleman also disappeared without a trace. Hu suddenly realized that he had encountered marriage fraud. In April 2024, the public security organs transferred the case to the Qingtian County Procuratorate for examination and prosecution on suspicion of fraud, and the fraudster was ultimately severely punished by law. However, the fraudulent gains had already been squandered by the scammers, and Hu's hope of recovering the dowry through civil compensation fell through. He was trapped in a situation where he wanted to cry but could not. He sought help from the prosecutor. After learning about Hu's situation, the handling prosecutor judged that he may meet the conditions for judicial assistance and immediately transferred the clues to the prosecution department of the court for prosecution and appeal. In August 2025, during a judicial assistance investigation and visit, the prosecutor found that Hu had not appeared in the village for several days and his family did not know his whereabouts. After more than a month of multiple investigations and verifications, the truth finally surfaced: due to being cheated into debt, Hu felt guilty and embarrassed to face his family and friends, so he deliberately cut off contact and followed his fellow townsmen to work in Cameroon, hoping to repay the debt through overseas workers. How to establish contact with Hu, who is far away in a foreign country, has become a difficult problem for prosecutors. In the end, relying on the "Overseas Chinese Inspection Home" platform and with the assistance of the County Overseas Chinese Federation, the hospital successfully contacted the president of the Cameroon Qingtian Association and subsequently found Hu. In December, the prosecutor of the court connected Hu through remote video and patiently guided him to entrust domestic relatives to submit judicial assistance application materials on his behalf. This precise rescue across thousands of miles has effectively solved the urgent needs of overseas Chinese. It is reported that the Qingtian County Procuratorate will continue to deepen the construction of a "home for overseas Chinese prosecutors", extending judicial care to every overseas Chinese, allowing the warmth of prosecutors to cross mountains and seas and reach people's hearts.
