World Bank raises global economic growth forecast for 2026

2026-01-15

The World Bank released its latest Global Economic Outlook report on the 13th, raising its global economic growth forecast for 2026 to 2.6%, which is 0.2 percentage points higher than the June 2025 forecast. The report points out that despite facing increased trade tensions and policy uncertainty, the global economy has shown resilience in the past year due to factors such as a significant increase in investment in artificial intelligence. However, at the same time, the global gap in living standards is widening, and the widening gap in living standards between wealthy and poor countries is worrying. The period from 2020 to 2030 may become the decade with the weakest global economic growth since the 1960s. The report warns that as the impact of US tariff policies gradually becomes apparent, global trade growth will significantly slow down in 2026, and the economic downside risks it brings still exist. The World Bank calls on governments to adjust policies and increase investment in technology and education to promote sustainable development. (New Society)
