The friendship between Africa and China has stood firm in the process of jointly advancing towards modernization

Early in the morning on workdays, crowds of people surged in front of the entrance of Uganda's Central Ubalae Industrial Park, and young people from the eastern Butaleja region gathered at the workshop buildings in the industrial park. The busy and orderly production site has become a microcosm of Uganda's industrialization process. Based on the 2018 Zhongwumbale Industrial Park, more than 70 enterprises have settled in and more than 10000 local employees have been employed. It is now a well-known national level industrial park in East Africa. During his recent visit to the park, Ugandan President Museveni emphasized that "the industrial park model is an important path for Uganda to achieve economic modernization. The successful practice of the China Uganda Mbale Industrial Park has provided valuable experience for Uganda's industrialization, and the series of achievements in the cooperation between Uganda and China demonstrate the enduring friendship between Africa and China in the process of jointly moving towards modernization." "The industries gathered are closely related to people's lives." "Climbing pads" are plastic pads designed and manufactured for infants and young children to crawl. Before the launch of the "crawling mat" production line at the Grace factory in the Umbalai Industrial Park in 2021, Ugandan consumers had almost never heard of this product, and local households rarely could afford carpets for infants and young children to crawl and play with. Henry Kaleman, the marketing manager of Grace Factory, recalled, "At that time, not only consumers, but also most local wholesalers had never seen this kind of product." Nowadays, Ugandan people are no longer unfamiliar with "climbing mats". Entering the production workshop of the Grace factory, the reporter saw the entire process of manufacturing "climbing pads": bags of materials are shaped into different specifications of sheets or rolls through a foaming film machine, then subjected to hydraulic cutting and slitting, and finally various types of environmental protection films are pressed on the outer layer with hot melt adhesive. The finished products are like beautiful sheets, neatly stacked. The 'climbing mat' has a high cost performance ratio and has become a well-known product in Uganda. Children from rural families can also play on clean and tidy mats. ”Quality inspector Sornaya stated that dozens of tons of qualified products enter Uganda and surrounding markets every month. The industries gathered in the park covering thousands of acres, including home appliances, daily chemical products, home textiles, building materials, pharmaceuticals, and automobile manufacturing, are closely related to people's lives. ”Zhang Zhigang, Chairman of Zhongwumbale Industrial Park, said that the original intention of building the industrial park is to fill the gap in Uganda's relevant production fields, promote local industrialization development, and improve employment and people's livelihoods. After years of development, there are more and more enterprises like Grace in the Zhongwumbale Industrial Park, and their market share is expanding year by year. Alavi Semanda, Executive Director of the Uganda Development Observation Center, said, "It has been proven that the development of industrial park models is consistent with Uganda's industrial development goals and has great potential for development. It effectively promotes the construction of Uganda's modern industrial system." In recent years, the Ugandan government has vigorously promoted reforms, identified industrialization as an important way for the country to achieve development, attracted foreign investment through preferential policies, and established industrial parks. The Zhongwumbale Industrial Park has attracted international investors, including Chinese companies. The rise of factories has greatly increased the scale and level of industrial manufacturing in Uganda, moving the country's industrial system from simple material processing to the construction of a complete industrial chain. At Lin's Wood Industry Company in the industrial park, raw materials such as eucalyptus wood and crop straw are preparing to enter the factory's pulp making workshop. This company is the first paper mill in Uganda to achieve 100% localization from raw materials to finished products. Duis Muya, the manager of a chain supermarket in Butaleja region, said that he is planning to increase the purchase of Lin's Wood Industry brand toilet paper: "This is locally made raw wood pulp toilet paper, a three-layer pressed product, with affordable prices and is very popular among locals." The United Steel Plant, which invests 100 million US dollars and produces 700000 tons of steel annually, provides Uganda with high-quality steel products such as steel bars and coils. Since the end of 2024, the products have not only been supplied locally, but also sold to neighboring countries such as Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The chairman of the factory, Xu Shicun, stated that it is expected that the factory will export 30000 tons of steel products to neighboring countries of Uganda by 2026. With the launch of the Beautiful Printing and Dyeing Company as a symbol, the industrial park has achieved a closed-loop chain from spinning and weaving to printing and dyeing, and then to the sale of finished products. The monthly production of fabric is 8 million square meters, accounting for 2/3 of the total production capacity of Uganda's printing and dyeing industry. Lida Jeans Factory has achieved a daily production of 15000 pairs of jeans, and will now use cotton fabric produced in Uganda to fully localize garment production. During his inspection of the industrial park, Uganda's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mulinba, stated that "the construction speed and development scale of various factories settling in the park have far exceeded expectations, achieving substantial results in creating employment opportunities and enhancing the added value of the local industrial chain, effectively promoting the construction of Uganda's modern industrial system. Taking the Grace factory as an example, the company not only exports sponge mattresses, quilts and other products to countries such as Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo, but also establishes a warehouse and agent system in Kenya. The products of Tianao Furniture Co., Ltd. in the industrial park are sold to major high-end home furnishing stores in Uganda, and 20% of the factory's home furnishing products are exported to Kenya. Industrial parks are not only production bases for African countries to promote industrialization, but also cradles for attracting foreign investment and cultivating skilled talents in Africa. ”Zhang Zhigang said, "Therefore, the industrial park should not only take root in Uganda, but also serve Uganda." Tianjin Industrial Vocational College and Elgon Vocational and Technical College rely on the China Uganda Mbale Industrial Park to jointly build the Luban Workshop. The industrial park not only provides approximately 1800 square meters of training space for Luban Workshop, including electrical automation technology, CNC machining and other equipment, but also integrates actual production needs into the teaching process. The teacher team conducts a series of work, including learning situation research, maintenance of practical training equipment, and course training, mainly based in the industrial park, fully reflecting the practical orientation of industry education integration. Since 2020, Luban Workshop has offered multiple practical training subjects such as electrical automation, fitter, industrial simulation, and CNC machining, training over 1200 skilled talents for the industrial park. The Mayor of Mbale City, Kasim Namugali, affirmed the positive contribution of industrial park construction to youth employment: "Many young people have learned job skills in factories, which is of great help to the comprehensive development of the entire region
