Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, China South Korea relations have gone through 33 years of ups and downs, forming a comprehensive development pattern of gradually increasing political mutual trust, increasingly close economic and trade cooperation, and continuously deepening cultural exchanges. A healthy, stable, and continuously deepening relationship between China and South Korea is in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples, and is also conducive to regional and even global peace, stability, development, and prosperity. This has become a consensus between China and South Korea. Economic and trade cooperation: The role of ballast stone is becoming increasingly stable. Economic and trade cooperation has always been the ballast stone and propeller of China South Korea relations. In 2024, the bilateral trade volume reached 328.08 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 5.6%. China has been the largest trading partner of South Korea for 21 consecutive years, while South Korea is China's second largest trading partner. Since the implementation of the China South Korea Free Trade Agreement in 2015, the level of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation between the two countries has continued to improve. The scope of cooperation has expanded from traditional manufacturing to emerging fields such as high-end manufacturing, cross-border e-commerce, and digital economy. Park Son kyung, Chief Representative of the Shanghai Representative Office of the Korea Trade Association, believes that "South Korea has performed well in advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, and smart devices, while China is in a leading position in digital infrastructure, e-commerce, and platform innovation." He said that this complementary advantage creates enormous potential for cooperation between China and South Korea in areas such as artificial intelligence applications, cross-border data services, and digital trade platforms. Cultural exchange: "proximity" and "connectivity" increase people's warmth. China and South Korea are geographically close, culturally connected, and have active personnel exchanges, which is the most vivid footnote to bilateral relations. In 2024, there will be 7.725 million personnel exchanges between China and South Korea, including 2.595 million visits from South Korea to China and 5.13 million visits from mainland Chinese residents to South Korea. Currently, there are over 1000 regular flights between the two countries every week. The continued implementation of visa facilitation measures has added more warmth to this "proximity" and "connectivity". In recent years, the giant panda "Bao Family" at South Korea's Aibao Amusement Park has become a lovely ambassador of friendship between China and South Korea, while the 24 Confucius Institutes and 4 Confucius Classrooms scattered throughout South Korea have enhanced the understanding of Chinese culture among the Korean people. From the popularity of Korean cosmetics and films among Chinese consumers, to the popularity of Chinese smart home appliances in the Korean market, the mutual influence of the two cultures has permeated daily life. What is even more touching is the touching stories that have emerged in the communication between the two peoples: there are both Zhangjiajie driver Xiao Bo who sacrificed himself to protect South Korean tourists, and South Korean coast guard Lee Jae suk who died in the line of duty to rescue Chinese citizens. These little moments of true feelings, together with the figures of Chinese tourists in Myeongdong, Seoul, and the laughter of young people tasting Korean cuisine on the streets of Shanghai, interweave into a vivid picture of people to people exchanges, bringing the hearts of the two peoples closer invisibly.
