The year 2025, which has just passed, is known as the "first year" of algorithmic transparency in the industry. This year, short video, food delivery, ride hailing, and freight platforms have publicly released algorithm models and principles, as well as platform scheduling rules, in response to the concerns of netizens and society. As the algorithm governance of the Internet platform goes deeper, the algorithm "black box" is changing to "white box". In the era of artificial intelligence, algorithms, as an advanced tool, are increasingly embedded in every aspect of daily life. It significantly improves online interaction efficiency, enhances user experience, and contributes to the prosperous development of the platform economy. However, at the same time, the drawbacks brought by algorithm applications such as "big data killing" and "rider involution" are increasingly being criticized. How do algorithms recommend merchants? How to allocate orders? How to estimate the delivery time? ——It is clear from the heated discussion of the "food delivery war" that even a slight deviation in algorithm design can lead to a loss of balance in the interests of all parties and cause social conflicts. Algorithm transparency is the foundation of public trust in artificial intelligence. Making algorithms subject to public supervision and serving social governance is the rightful meaning of "putting technology first". When the Internet platform actively publicizes the algorithm in a concise, clear and understandable way, do a good job of scientific communication, let the public understand the algorithm, interact with the platform in time, and feedback opinions and suggestions, it will certainly promote the benign development of the industry. The more technology advances, the more people's reasonable demands and happiness needs should be met. Only by placing algorithms under public supervision can complex code not miss the core element of 'people'. Promoting algorithmic transparency is an important aspect of China's efforts to balance network governance and development. From the "Clear and Bright" special action at the end of 2024 to the recent introduction of the "Supervision and Management Measures for Live E-commerce", clear compliance red lines have led the healthy development of the industry while also building a healthy and transparent network information ecosystem. Leading Chinese Internet enterprises have made it a priority to promote algorithm transparency. For example, Tiktok relies on the security and trust center to popularize the algorithm principle to the public, and disclose its diversified algorithm goals based on the premise of user interest. Some scholars believe that timely prediction and even promotion of user interests or needs, providing opportunities for "information encounters", is also a way to break through the "information cocoon". For example, after Huolala made its algorithm public, it continuously optimized its scheduling rules based on suggestions from the algorithm suggestion mailbox and driver consultation meetings, effectively improving the fairness of order allocation. We should applaud the active exploration of these 'technology centered' approaches. It should be acknowledged that algorithmic governance and technological transparency are common challenges worldwide, facing multiple challenges such as technological complexity, balancing commercial interests, and improving legal frameworks. Building a healthy and inclusive online ecosystem requires collaborative efforts from multiple parties in the future. In addition to the initiative of the Internet platform, regulators should implement regular supervision, and the public should also actively participate in the governance process to reflect the demands of "people" to "machines" as much as possible. Algorithmic governance is not easy, and the "first year" is just the starting point. We have already seen the clear direction of algorithmic governance driving technology towards goodness.
