At around 8:00 am on the 6th, the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge was bustling with people. As a passenger completed the "face recognition" clearance through the intelligent fast track of border inspection, the number of passengers traveling between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao through the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge exceeded 100 million. Chen Shifa, the head of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border inspection station, is extremely knowledgeable about the clearance data of the bridge. He sighed and said, "It took more than 5 years to break through the first 50 million person times, but it only took 1 year and 8 months to break through the second 50 million person times." The Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge is 55 kilometers long and is the world's longest cross sea bridge. After 6 years of preparation and 9 years of construction, tens of thousands of builders overcame obstacles and created a miracle in the history of world bridges. In October 2018, the bridge was officially completed and opened to traffic, reducing the travel time from Hong Kong to Zhuhai and Macau from 3 hours to about 45 minutes, greatly shortening the time and space distance between the three places. With the implementation of policies such as "Australian cars heading north", "Hong Kong cars heading north", and "Guangdong cars heading south", the bridge has witnessed the acceleration of integration in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. The data reflects the high enthusiasm of Hong Kong and Macao residents to travel to the mainland. Since the opening of the port, the number of Hong Kong and Macao residents entering and leaving the port has exceeded 58.73 million, accounting for 58.7% of the total passenger flow at the port. By 2025, the number of Hong Kong and Macao residents entering and leaving the port will be nearly 18 million, an increase of nearly 300% compared to 2019. The number of single license plate vehicles from Hong Kong and Macau inspected at the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge border checkpoint has exceeded 8.4 million. Driving across the bridge and heading north is becoming a daily lifestyle for residents of Hong Kong and Macau. Accompanying the trend of 'going north' is the surging wave of 'going south'. Since the opening of the port, the number of mainland tourists inspected at the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border checkpoint has exceeded 39.38 million, with over 12.57 million in 2025 alone, setting a new historical high. Recently, with the implementation of the "Guangdong car southbound" policy, mainland residents can drive to Hong Kong via the bridge. As of now, over 800 Guangdong private cars have completed the "Guangdong car southbound" border inspection and filing. While traveling in both directions between mainland China and Hong Kong and Macau, foreign tourists also experience the vibrant Greater Bay Area through this world-class bridge. As a direct land port to Hong Kong International Airport and a 240 hour visa free entry port for transit, the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge has 24-hour customs clearance, seamlessly connecting with the 24-hour operation of the Hong Kong International Airport. In addition, the implementation of policies such as "flying through Hong Kong via Zhuhai" has enabled more and more international passengers to choose to travel through the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge. By 2025, the number of foreign tourists inspected at the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border checkpoint will exceed 569000, a year-on-year increase of over 28.7%. Behind the leapfrog growth of passenger and vehicle traffic on the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge is the continuous deep integration of the economy and society in the Greater Bay Area. This' Dream Bridge, Tongxin Bridge, Confidence Bridge, and Fuxing Bridge 'is becoming a vivid portrayal of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao working together, walking together, and prospering together. ”Xie Baojian, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Macao Economic Research Institute of Jinan University, said.
