MTR Corporation Limited (MTR) announced on the 4th that the passenger capacity of the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Rail will reach a new high of over 30 million in 2025, an increase of 17% year-on-year. It is reported that on December 27, 2025, the high-speed railway West Kowloon Station recorded nearly 140000 passengers, breaking the daily passenger record. Since its opening in September 2018, the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Rail has seen a cumulative passenger volume exceeding 100 million in recent days. MTR Corporation stated that currently, the majority of high-speed rail passengers are short distance travelers, accounting for about 80% of the total. Hong Kong citizens accounted for about 30% of the total passenger traffic, increasing from about 30% in the early stages of operation to about 45%, with the rest being mainland and overseas passengers, reflecting that high-speed rail has promoted personnel interaction and exchange. MTR Chief Executive Yang Meizhen stated that since the opening of the train, MTR has actively participated in close cooperation between mainland railway units and the government, increasing stations and improving services. In the future, MTR will continue to closely coordinate with relevant units to enhance travel experience and expand the network. At present, departing from the West Kowloon High Speed Rail Station in Hong Kong, it can directly reach 96 stations across the country, with a minimum of 208 daily trips. (New Society)
